About August Home

August Home was founded in 2012 by renowned industrial designer Yves Béhar (fuseproject) and entrepreneur Jason Johnson with a vision to reimagine home access. Rather than replacing your entire lock, August's innovative design retrofits onto your existing deadbolt, preserving your keys while adding smart features. This approach reassures users with a familiar backup.

August's cylindrical design, available in multiple finishes, earned design awards and became iconic. Features include auto-lock/unlock, virtual keys for guests, activity logs, and voice control. Acquired by Swedish lock manufacturer Assa Abloy in 2017 for $150M, August continues operating from San Francisco.

Their DoorSense technology knows if your door is actually closed and locked.
