Why This Happens in Real Homes
Blink Wired Floodlight Camera replaces an outdoor floodlight and uses existing line voltage wiring. This guide covers shutting off power, mounting the bracket, wiring the camera, sealing the gasket, and completing onboarding in the Blink app. In day-to-day use, this usually looks like Existing outdoor junction box at eave; Wiring in good condition and grounded; Breaker labeled clearly at panel.
Most cases trace back to Live wires during install create shock risk; Junction box too small for new device; Gasket pinched during mount causing leaks. The fix works best when you go step by step instead of changing multiple settings at once.
A practical order for this issue is: Kill Power Safely -> Remove Old Fixture -> Attach Bracket -> Wire the Camera. After each step, test the exact behavior that was failing so you can confirm what actually solved it.

Before You Start
- Live wires during install create a shock risk
- Junction box too small for the new device
- Gasket pinched during mounting, causing leaks
- Screws too long, stripping the bracket
- No neutral wire at the junction box
- Weak WiFi at the floodlight location
- Wiring not grounded properly
- Breaker not fully off during wiring
Don't skip this step — it breaks everything if you do
Do not splice line-voltage wires without a rated wire connector. Improper splices create fire risk and corrode outdoors quickly.

Installation Steps
Kill Power Safely
Identify the breaker controlling the outdoor floodlight and turn it off. Use a non-contact voltage tester at the junction box to confirm power is off. Never trust a switch alone. Tape a note to the panel so nobody else flips the breaker back on while you work.

$9.59Remove Old Fixture
Unscrew the old floodlight and carefully pull the fixture away from the wall. Note the existing wiring. You should see line hot, neutral, and ground conductors. If only two wires are present, pause and verify neutral is available before proceeding further.
Attach Bracket
Mount the Blink bracket to the junction box using the included screws. Confirm the bracket sits flush and tight. Seat the included gasket between bracket and wall to seal against moisture. A skewed gasket can let water into the box during heavy storms.
Wire the Camera
Connect hot to black, neutral to white, and ground to green per included directions. Use the included wire connectors for a tight, safe splice. Tuck wires neatly into the junction box and secure the camera onto the bracket per included diagrams.

$25.99Power On and Pair
Restore breaker power. Open the Blink app and add the floodlight. Follow onboarding on your 2.4GHz WiFi. Aim the camera using live view. Run a brief test with the floodlight on. If signal is weak, plan a mesh node before finalizing the install.
Installation Tips
Still stuck? This is usually the deeper cause below.
Photograph old wiring from two angles before disconnecting. Photos are invaluable if the new fixture requires a different connection pattern.
