- navigator cache stale
- director sync lag
- project push incomplete
Problem Description
Control4 navigators (touch panels, mobile app) do not reflect device changes made in Composer Pro — new devices are missing, room layouts are outdated, or button labels are wrong. Changes must be pushed from Composer, navigators must be refreshed, and touch panel cache may need clearing for the updated configuration to appear.
Why This Happens in Real Homes
Navigators that do not show new devices or labels simply have not received the pushed project, since changes in Composer must be pushed and the navigators refreshed. In real installs a push that did not complete is the cause. Re-push the project from Composer and refresh or reboot the navigator to pull the current layout.
Symptoms
- Old device list
- stale room controls
- changes visible only in Composer
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- navigator cache stale
- director sync lag
- project push incomplete
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Do not assume Composer changes are visible until client sync completes.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Push the project from Composer Pro after making changes
Changes made in Composer Pro (adding devices, modifying connections, updating programming) only take effect after pushing the project to the controller. In Composer Pro: File > Push to Controller (or the Push button in the toolbar). If you made changes but did not push: navigators (apps, touch panels) still show the old configuration. After pushing: navigators should auto-update within 30 seconds. If they do not: proceed to the next steps.
Refresh navigators from Composer
In Composer Pro: Tools > Refresh Navigators. This forces all connected navigators to download the latest project data from the controller. Touch panels (T3, T4) and the mobile app should refresh within 10-20 seconds. If a specific navigator does not refresh: it may have a network issue (touch panel lost WiFi, app disconnected). Reboot that specific navigator: for touch panels, pull off the mount and re-seat, or hold the power button for 10 seconds. For the app: force-close and reopen.
Reboot the touch panel to clear cached configuration
Control4 touch panels (T3, T4, T10) cache the project configuration locally. If the cache is corrupted or outdated: the panel shows old device layouts, missing rooms, or stale button labels. Reboot the panel: hold the power button for 10 seconds until the screen goes black. The panel reboots in about 60 seconds and downloads a fresh configuration from the controller. If the panel is wall-mounted and the power button is inaccessible: pull the panel off its mount (it's magnetically attached), wait 30 seconds, and re-seat it.
Verify the controller has the latest project version
In Composer Pro: connect to the controller and check the project version. Go to File > Project Properties and note the last push timestamp. If the timestamp is older than your recent changes: the push did not succeed. Re-push. If the timestamp is current but navigators still show old data: Director may not have loaded the new project. Restart Director: Tools > Director > Restart. After Director restarts with the new project: all navigators should reflect the changes within 60 seconds.
Check for navigator software version mismatch
Touch panels and the app need compatible software versions with the controller's OS. If the controller was updated to a newer OS version but the touch panels were not: navigator features may not work correctly and device changes may not display. In Composer Pro: go to System Design > select each touch panel > Properties > check firmware version. If outdated: update from Tools > Update Firmware on the panel. The mobile app updates from the App Store/Play Store — make sure auto-updates are enabled.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If this comes back after following these steps, check whether a recent app or firmware update reset a default setting — the fix works, but the setting gets reverted silently.
Navigator refresh should be part of post-change validation workflow.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
- navigator cache stale
- director sync lag
- project push incomplete
Before you go — try one of these (they fix most cases).
