Why Can't Alexa Find My Amazon Smart Plug?

Device: Amazon Smart Plug (Amazon Smart Plug)

Alexa cannot find or discover your Amazon Smart Plug during initial setup, or the plug shows as Unresponsive in the Alexa app after previously working. The Amazon Smart Plug connects directly to your 2.4GHz WiFi network and is controlled through the Alexa app. During setup, the plug enters discovery mode (indicated by an orange/red blinking LED) and the Alexa app searches for it. Discovery failures are usually caused by the plug not being in setup mode, the phone being on 5GHz WiFi, or Bluetooth permissions not granted to the Alexa app. The "unknown failure" error during setup means the Alexa app found the plug but could not complete WiFi configuration.

Why Won't My Amazon Smart Plug Respond to Alexa?

Device: Amazon Smart Plug (Amazon Smart Plug)

Your Amazon Smart Plug was previously working but now shows as Not Responding or Offline in the Alexa app. Alexa says "the device is not responding" when you try to turn it on or off by voice. The plug may or may not still have power to the connected device (the plug passes through power by default even when offline from Alexa). The most common causes are WiFi disconnection (router reboot, password change, or signal loss), Alexa account issues, or the plug firmware hanging and needing a power cycle.
