How to Fix Phyn Not Sending Data Warning
- Device lost/weak connection to the cloud
- WiFi connected but data not flowing
- Firmware glitch
Problem Description
The Phyn app shows a "Not Sending Data" warning — the device has not communicated with the cloud within the expected interval. The device's WiFi connection may be lost, internet may be down, the data transmission process may be stuck, or a firewall may be blocking the device's cloud traffic.
Why This Happens in Real Homes
The "Not Sending Data" warning means the Phyn cloud stopped receiving readings from your device even though it may still appear powered — the data stream broke, usually from a weak or dropped connection or a firmware hiccup. It matters because a Phyn that isn't sending data isn't actively protecting you.
Reboot the Phyn device to restart the data stream, and confirm it has a strong, stable 2.4GHz connection (reserving a DHCP IP and improving signal help it stay connected). Update the firmware, refresh the app, and check Phyn's service status in case it's a backend delay. If a rebooted, well-connected, updated device keeps showing the warning, contact Phyn support.
Symptoms
- 'Not Sending Data' warning
- Device flagged as not reporting
- Warning despite being powered
- No recent data
- Data warning recurring
- Monitoring paused by the warning
- Warning after an update/outage
- Data gap warning
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Device lost/weak connection to the cloud
- WiFi connected but data not flowing
- Firmware glitch
- Device needs a reboot
- Backend/sync delay
- Weak signal dropping data
- Router/network issue
- Power interruption
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Do not ignore prolonged telemetry gaps in leak-protection systems.

Step-by-Step Solution
Check the device WiFi connection
A 'Not Sending Data' warning means the Phyn cloud has not received data from the device within the expected interval (typically 15-30 minutes). The device has lost its WiFi connection or cannot reach the internet. Check: is your 2.4 GHz WiFi network broadcasting? Is the Phyn device's LED solid blue (connected) or flashing (disconnected)? If flashing: the WiFi connection is lost. Press the device button to trigger a reconnect. If the LED is off: the device has no power — check the breaker or batteries.
Verify your internet is working
The Phyn device sends data to Phyn's cloud servers. If your WiFi works locally but your internet is down: the device connects to WiFi but cannot upload data. Test by browsing the web on a phone connected to the same WiFi. If internet is down: wait for your ISP to restore service — the Phyn will resume data uploads automatically when internet returns. During the outage: the device continues monitoring locally and will auto-shutoff on catastrophic leaks.
Restart the Phyn device
If WiFi and internet are both working but data is not flowing: the device's data transmission module may be stuck. Power cycle: Phyn Plus = turn off breaker 30 seconds; battery sensors = remove/reinsert batteries. After restart: the device reconnects and sends a data burst to the cloud. Check the app after 5 minutes — the 'Not Sending Data' warning should clear and current readings should appear.
Check for router or firewall blocking Phyn traffic
If a recent router or firewall change was made: the Phyn's outbound traffic may be blocked. The Phyn needs to reach Phyn's cloud servers on standard HTTPS (port 443) and possibly MQTT (port 8883). Check your router's connected devices list: is the Phyn connected and active? Check firewall rules: are IoT devices restricted to certain destinations? Temporarily disable any device-specific firewall rules to test. If data flows after disabling: add an exception for the Phyn device.
Re-pair the device if the warning persists
If all connectivity is confirmed but the warning persists for 24+ hours: the device's cloud registration may be corrupted. Remove the device from the Phyn app (Settings > Device > Remove). Factory reset the device (hold button 15-20 seconds). Re-add through the app (Add Device > follow setup). This creates a fresh cloud registration and WiFi connection. After re-pairing: calibrate the device for accurate readings.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If this comes back after following these steps, check whether a recent app or firmware update reset a default setting — the fix works, but the setting gets reverted silently.
Keep critical water-monitoring devices on low-friction DNS policy.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
- Device lost/weak connection to the cloud
- WiFi connected but data not flowing
- Firmware glitch
- Device needs a reboot
- Backend/sync delay
Before you go — try one of these (they fix most cases).
