Problem Description

The Aiper app fails to find the cleaner, hangs on connecting, or drops the pairing partway through, whether you run a Seagull, a Scuba S1, or an X1. Every Aiper cleaner pairs through the same app over Bluetooth first and then hands off to WiFi, so the cause is usually a permissions block on the phone, a cleaner that is not in pairing mode, or interference from the pool equipment nearby.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

Every Aiper cleaner pairs through the same app over Bluetooth first and then hands off to WiFi, so a failure is usually a permissions block, a cleaner not in pairing mode, or interference near the pool equipment. In real setups the common misses are trying to pair with the unit still in the water and a home network that only offers 5GHz.

Get the pairing light first, keep the phone close and the unit out of the water, and confirm you are on 2.4GHz before assuming a fault.

Symptoms

  • The Aiper app cannot find the cleaner
  • The app hangs on connecting
  • Pairing drops partway through setup
  • The cleaner pairs then shows offline
  • The app never lists your model
  • The indicator never enters the pairing state
  • Connects at the house but not at the pool
  • Will not reconnect after a router change

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Cleaner not in pairing mode (wrong button or hold)
  • Trying WiFi setup with the cleaner in the water
  • A 5GHz-only network
  • Bluetooth off on the phone
  • Phone too far from the cleaner during setup
  • Wrong WiFi password entered
  • Interference from the pump, fencing, or equipment
  • Weak 2.4GHz coverage at the pool deck

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Put the cleaner in pairing mode

Take the cleaner out of the water and set it on a flat surface near your phone. On the Seagull, press and hold the power button on top (the large round button with the Aiper logo) for 5 seconds until the LED ring blinks blue rapidly. On the Scuba S1 and X1, hold the top power button until the LED enters its blinking pairing state. The cleaner stays discoverable for about 3 minutes before it times out. Open the Aiper app within that window and tap Add Device on the home screen, then pick your model from the list.

2

Check phone Bluetooth and location permissions

The Aiper app needs both Bluetooth and Location permission to discover any model. On iPhone, go to Settings, then Aiper, and turn on Bluetooth and Location set to While Using. On Android, open Settings, Apps, Aiper, Permissions and enable Bluetooth, Nearby Devices, and Location. Android also requires Location Services to be on globally, not just for the app, before it will scan for Bluetooth devices, which is an Android requirement and not an Aiper limit.

3

Move closer and cut interference

Bluetooth range is about 30 feet in open air, but pool equipment, metal fencing, and concrete cut that down fast. Stand within 10 feet of the cleaner with nothing solid between it and your phone. Turn off other nearby Bluetooth devices that may be grabbing the connection. If you are next to the pump or a variable-speed drive, move the cleaner at least 15 feet away, since the electromagnetic noise from pump motors disrupts pairing.

4

Reset the wireless module for your model

If the cleaner never appears after entering pairing mode, reset its wireless module. On the Seagull, find the small pinhole reset button on the underside near the two gold charging contacts, and hold it with a paperclip for 10 seconds until the top LED ring flashes red three times. The Scuba S1 and X1 have no pinhole; instead hold the top power button for about 10 seconds until the unit beeps, which restarts the controller and the wireless module together. Then put the cleaner back in pairing mode and try the app again.

5

Update the app and run the firmware or OTA update

Open the App Store or Google Play and update the Aiper app, since an old app version often fails to pair with a cleaner on newer firmware. The Scuba S1 and X1 support over-the-air firmware updates: put the cleaner on its dock, leave it powered on, and in the app go to Device Settings, then Firmware Update, and let it finish before starting a cycle (10 to 15 minutes, and it reboots after). Update Seagull firmware the same way with the unit on the dock. Re-pair over Bluetooth if the cleaner reboots.

6

Reconnect WiFi for remote features (2.4GHz only)

Remote scheduling, OTA updates, and remote start run over WiFi after Bluetooth pairing succeeds. The Scuba S1 and X1 connect their own WiFi radio to your home network, while the Seagull Pro and above route WiFi through a radio inside the charging dock. Aiper cleaners only join 2.4GHz networks, so a 5GHz-only band will not show in the list. If you changed your router or WiFi password since setup, open Device Settings, then WiFi Settings, and re-enter the credentials on the 2.4GHz network.

Quick Solutions

Enter pairing mode (Seagull: hold power ~5s until it blinks; Scuba/X1: hold power to pairing)
Do WiFi setup with the cleaner out of the water
Use a 2.4GHz network
Turn the phone Bluetooth on
Keep the phone within a few feet of the cleaner
Re-enter the WiFi password carefully
Move away from the pump and breaker panel
Add a mesh point or pair near the router first

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If pairing fails after multiple attempts, the device may still be registered to a previous account — factory-reset it before trying to add it to a new one.

Pro Tip

Aiper Seagull user manuals are available at https://aiper.com/us/support — select Seagull SE, Seagull Pro, or Seagull Plus for your model. The Aiper app is available on iOS and Android — search "Aiper" in the App Store or Google Play. Bluetooth pairing range is approximately 10 meters (33 feet). The wireless reset button is inside the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit — press with a paperclip for 5 seconds. If the WiFi dock is not relaying to the cloud, check that the dock's WiFi indicator LED (on the front panel) is solid blue. Flashing blue means it is still connecting; red means it lost WiFi. The dock needs 2.4 GHz WiFi only — it does not support 5 GHz.

Real-World Insight

Pairing failures almost always come down to distance during the initial handshake — manufacturers seriously understate how close you actually need to be.

  • Cleaner not in pairing mode (wrong button or hold)
  • Trying WiFi setup with the cleaner in the water
  • A 5GHz-only network
