- New router defaulting to 5GHz band only
- 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks have same SSID
- Router using incompatible 2.4GHz channel
Problem Description
Your Treatlife smart switch stopped working after you upgraded or replaced your home WiFi router. The switch may blink rapidly during setup but fails to complete connection, or it connected to your old router but refuses to see the new one. Treatlife switches only support 2.4GHz WiFi which modern routers often combine with 5GHz.
Symptoms
- Switch worked on old router but not new one
- Rapid LED blinking during setup but never connects
- Smart Life app cannot find the switch
- Setup times out before completing
- Switch connects briefly then disconnects
- Other smart devices connected but Treatlife will not
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- New router defaulting to 5GHz band only
- 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks have same SSID
- Router using incompatible 2.4GHz channel
- Band steering pushing device to 5GHz
- Security protocol changed to WPA3 only
- Router firewall blocking IoT devices
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Do not factory reset your Treatlife switch until you have verified your 2.4GHz network is properly configured. Repeatedly resetting without fixing the network just wastes time.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Create Separate 2.4GHz Network SSID
Many modern routers combine 2.4GHz and 5GHz under one network name and use band steering. Treatlife switches can only connect to 2.4GHz. Log into your router settings and create a separate network name for the 2.4GHz band, like YourNetwork_24. Use this network when setting up Treatlife switches.
Disable Band Steering
Band steering automatically pushes devices to 5GHz which Treatlife cannot use. In your router settings, find Band Steering, Smart Connect, or similar features and disable them. This allows devices to explicitly choose which band to connect to. Some routers hide this in Advanced Wireless settings.
Verify WiFi Security Protocol
New routers often default to WPA3 security which some IoT devices do not support. Go to your router wireless security settings and change from WPA3 or WPA3/WPA2 to WPA2 only, or ensure backwards compatibility mode is enabled. Treatlife switches support WPA2-PSK.
Check 2.4GHz Channel
Some routers auto-select 2.4GHz channels that are incompatible with certain devices. Log into your router and manually set the 2.4GHz channel to 1, 6, or 11. Avoid channels 12 and 13 as these are not universally supported. Also ensure channel width is 20MHz, not 40MHz.
Connect Phone to 2.4GHz During Setup
When setting up in the Smart Life app, your phone must be connected to the same 2.4GHz network the switch will use. Force your phone onto the 2.4GHz network before opening the app. On iPhone, forget the 5GHz network temporarily. On Android, disable auto-connect for 5GHz.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If this comes back after following these steps, check whether a recent app or firmware update reset a default setting — the fix works, but the setting gets reverted silently.
After setup succeeds, you can reconnect your phone to your preferred network. The switch only needs to be on 2.4GHz; your phone can control it from any network including 5GHz once setup is complete.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
- New router defaulting to 5GHz band only
- 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks have same SSID
- Router using incompatible 2.4GHz channel
- Band steering pushing device to 5GHz
- Security protocol changed to WPA3 only
Before you go — try one of these (they fix most cases).
