Problem Description

Your Arlo camera disconnects from the app every night and comes back online in the morning, missing all overnight motion events. If other Arlo cameras on the same network stay online, the problem is specific to this camera's signal path or your router's overnight behavior — not an Arlo outage. The most common causes are a router scheduled reboot, WiFi power-saving mode reducing signal overnight, or signal that is just strong enough during the day but drops below threshold when the environment cools.

Symptoms

  • Offline every night same time
  • Back online in morning
  • Night recordings missing
  • Other Arlos stay connected
  • No events between midnight and 6am
  • Battery shows adequate charge

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Router scheduled reboot
  • WiFi power saving overnight
  • Battery saver mode on camera
  • Camera too far from SmartHub
  • Router reducing power at night
  • Camera entering deep sleep

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Do not factory reset the camera for overnight drops. The issue is almost always network-side.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Check Router for Scheduled Reboot

Many routers schedule automatic reboots between midnight and 3am by default. If the Arlo camera or SmartHub fails to reconnect after the reboot, it stays offline until morning. Log into your router admin panel — typically at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 — and look for Scheduled Reboot or Maintenance Window settings. Disable the scheduled reboot or change it to daytime when you can verify reconnection.

2

Disable Router WiFi Power-Saving Mode

Router features labeled Green Mode, Eco WiFi, or WiFi Sleep reduce signal output during low-traffic periods overnight. Devices with marginal signal drop when the router powers down. Log into your router admin panel and disable any power-saving or eco mode that affects WiFi broadcast. This setting is commonly found under Advanced Wireless or Power Management.

3

Check Arlo Power Management Setting

In the Arlo app tap the camera then Settings then Power Management. If battery saver is active, the camera may suspend WiFi overnight to conserve power. Switch to Optimal or Best Video mode. This setting is the most common cause of overnight disconnects on battery-powered Arlo cameras and is easy to overlook after a factory reset.

4

Assign a Static IP Address

If your router's DHCP lease expires overnight while the camera is in a low-power state, the camera may fail to renew its IP silently and stay offline. Log into your router, find the Arlo camera by its MAC address in the DHCP client table, and assign it a permanent IP reservation. The MAC address is printed on the camera label and also visible in the Arlo app under Device Info.

5

Move SmartHub or Router Closer

A camera at the edge of WiFi range may stay connected during the day when router output is at full power, then drop at night when eco modes reduce signal. If this camera is the farthest from your SmartHub or router, move the hub closer or add a WiFi extender between them. A 10 dB improvement in signal level prevents overnight drop-offs caused by marginal coverage.

Quick Solutions

Disable router scheduled reboot
Disable WiFi power saving
Turn off battery saver
Move SmartHub closer
Assign static IP
Check power management settings

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

This usually happens right after a router reboot or ISP change — the device rejoins the network but drops its cloud session silently.

Pro Tip

Check Library for gaps in recordings to identify exact time camera goes offline each night.

Real-World Insight

Most WiFi drop-offs happen right after a router reboot or ISP swap — the device reconnects to the network but silently loses its cloud registration.

What Usually Goes Wrong
  • Router scheduled reboot
  • WiFi power saving overnight
  • Battery saver mode on camera
  • Camera too far from SmartHub
  • Router reducing power at night
