- Arlo cloud servers temporarily experiencing high load or maintenance
- Phone network connection too slow to load library data
- Arlo app cache corrupted preventing library data retrieval
Problem Description
When you try to view your Arlo camera recorded clips in the Library tab the app shows a Failed to Get Library error or the library loads empty showing no recordings. This error means the Arlo app cannot retrieve your stored video clips from Arlo cloud servers. Your cameras may still be recording new clips but you cannot access any of them through the Library. This is separate from live view which may still work. The Failed to Get Library error is a cloud storage retrieval failure not a camera or local connectivity issue.
Symptoms
- Arlo app shows Failed to Get Library when tapping Library tab
- Library shows empty even though cameras have been recording
- Specific date ranges in the library fail to load
- Library was working then suddenly shows the error
- Error appears on both phone app and my.arlo.com website
- Some cameras library loads but others show the error
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Arlo cloud servers temporarily experiencing high load or maintenance
- Phone network connection too slow to load library data
- Arlo app cache corrupted preventing library data retrieval
- Subscription lapsed and cloud recordings are no longer accessible
- Date filter in the library set to a range with no recordings
- Arlo account needs re-authentication after security change
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Arlo cloud recordings are retained based on your subscription plan. Arlo Secure retains for 30 days. Arlo Secure Plus retains for 60 days. After the retention period recordings are automatically deleted. The Failed to Get Library error does not cause recording deletion. Your clips are preserved on the server even while the library is inaccessible.
Step-by-Step Solution
Force Close and Reopen App
Swipe the Arlo app completely closed. On iPhone swipe up from the bottom and swipe the Arlo app away. On Android open recent apps and swipe Arlo away. Wait 5 seconds. Reopen the Arlo app and navigate to the Library tab. The app will make a fresh request to Arlo servers for your recordings. A transient server timeout often resolves on the second attempt.
Check Arlo Service Status
Visit status.arlo.com or search for Arlo down today to check if other users are reporting the same issue. Arlo cloud servers occasionally experience outages especially during major firmware rollouts or maintenance windows. If a service issue is confirmed wait for Arlo to resolve it. Your recordings are not lost during server outages and will be accessible once service is restored.
Clear App Cache
On Android go to Settings then Apps then Arlo then Storage then Clear Cache. On iPhone delete the Arlo app and reinstall from the App Store. Corrupted cached data can prevent the library from loading even when the servers are functioning normally. After clearing cache log back in and try the Library tab.
Try my.arlo.com Web Interface
Open a web browser on your phone or computer and go to my.arlo.com. Log in and click Library. If the web interface shows your recordings but the app does not the issue is specific to the app on your phone. Reinstall the app. If the web interface also shows Failed to Get Library the issue is server-side or account-related.
Verify Subscription and Camera Coverage
Go to my.arlo.com then Subscription. Verify your Arlo Secure plan is active and which cameras are covered. If your subscription expired your cloud recordings may be temporarily inaccessible until you resubscribe. Arlo retains recordings for a limited time after subscription lapse but they cannot be viewed until the subscription is reactivated. If specific cameras are not covered under the plan they will not have library recordings.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If this comes back after following these steps, check whether a recent app or firmware update reset a default setting — the fix works, but the setting gets reverted silently.
Download important recordings from the Arlo library regularly rather than relying solely on cloud storage. In the Arlo app you can tap any clip and select Download to save it to your phone. This protects critical footage from being lost due to server issues, subscription lapses, or Arlo policy changes on recording retention.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
- Arlo cloud servers temporarily experiencing high load or maintenance
- Phone network connection too slow to load library data
- Arlo app cache corrupted preventing library data retrieval
- Subscription lapsed and cloud recordings are no longer accessible
- Date filter in the library set to a range
Before you go — try one of these (they fix most cases).
