  • Multiple family members already use Google Home
  • Doorbell ring should announce through Google speakers

Installation Steps

1

Verify Your Night Owl Model Is Supported

Open Night Owl Protect or Night Owl Connect and note your recorder or camera series from Device Settings. Check the list in Night Owl's Viewing your Night Owl System Using Google support article (BTD2, BTD8, BTN8, BTWN8, C20, C20X, C50X, C50XFR, C80XFR, DP2, DP8, HC20X, VDP2, WNIP2, WNIP8, WNVR201, WNVRC20, WCC20, WDB-20). If your series is not listed, Google integration will not work and cannot be forced.

2

Confirm Cameras Are Online in Night Owl App

Open Night Owl Protect or Connect. Every camera you want Google to access must show Online with current firmware. Tap each camera, run a live view test, and update firmware under Device Settings if an update is offered. A camera that flickers online during the day will fail Google linking because Google polls device status at link time and locks onto Offline devices.

3

Open Google Home and Add Device

On your phone open the Google Home app (install from the app store if missing). Sign in with the Google account linked to your Nest Hub and Chromecast devices. Tap the plus icon at the top left, choose Set Up Device, then Works with Google. Type Night Owl in the search bar. Select the Night Owl service listing and tap Link Account.

4

Link Your Night Owl Account

Google redirects to the Night Owl sign-in page. Enter the exact same email address and password you use to log into Night Owl Protect or Connect. Approve the permissions screen requesting camera live view access. Google Home returns to the app with a list of your Night Owl cameras. Assign each one to a room (Entryway, Kitchen, Driveway, etc.) and give clear names.

5

Test a Voice Command on Nest Hub

Walk to your Google Nest Hub or a TV with Chromecast built in. Say Hey Google, show me Front Door (substitute the exact camera name you set). Within 5 to 10 seconds the live view should appear. To stop say Hey Google, stop. If Google replies that the camera is unavailable, re-open Google Home, remove the Night Owl link, and re-link ensuring the camera is online when you do so.

Installation Tips

Confirm your model is on the supported list
Use the same Night Owl email in Google Home
Name cameras clearly (Front Door, Driveway)
Group cameras into a Google Home room
Keep camera firmware up to date in Protect
Use Nest Hub for best live view experience

Still stuck? This is usually the deeper cause below.

Pro Tip

Rename cameras in Night Owl Protect first (not in Google Home). Google pulls the camera name at link time, and a rename inside Google will not push back to Night Owl.
