Problem Description

Your Wyze Lock does not respond to lock or unlock commands from the Wyze app. The lock may work fine with the physical keypad or thumb turn but remote control is broken. Without app control you cannot lock remotely or use auto-lock features. This is usually caused by Bluetooth range issues WiFi gateway connection problems or calibration errors.

Symptoms

  • App shows lock as offline or unavailable
  • Lock and unlock buttons in app have no effect
  • Lock works with keypad but not through app
  • App says lock is jammed when it moves freely by hand
  • Status shows locked but door is actually unlocked
  • Auto-lock feature stopped working

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Wyze Lock Gateway too far from lock for Bluetooth
  • WiFi gateway lost connection to router
  • Lock not properly calibrated for door position
  • Lock batteries low affecting motor and Bluetooth
  • Lock mechanism binding on deadbolt misalignment
  • Gateway firmware outdated

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Never remove batteries while deadbolt is extended in locked position. If batteries die while locked you need a physical key. Always keep a key accessible.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Check Gateway Connection

The Wyze Lock uses Bluetooth to the Gateway which connects to WiFi. Check if gateway shows connected in app. If offline unplug for 10 seconds and replug. Gateway must be within 15 feet of lock with no more than one wall between them.

2

Replace Batteries

Replace all 4 AA batteries with fresh alkaline batteries. Do not use rechargeable NiMH as their 1.2V is too low. Low batteries cause motor stalling and weak Bluetooth. Wait 30 seconds after replacing for reinitialization.

3

Recalibrate the Lock

In Wyze app tap lock then Settings then Calibrate. Follow prompts to teach the lock its full range of locked and unlocked positions. Calibration takes 30 seconds and should be done after battery replacement.

4

Check Deadbolt Alignment

Manually turn thumb turn. If stiff or binding the door frame is misaligned. Adjust strike plate or file the opening slightly. The Wyze motor is not powerful enough to overcome significant resistance.

Update Firmware

In Wyze app go to lock settings then Device Info and check for updates for both lock and gateway. Updates are sent over Bluetooth and may take several minutes.

Quick Solutions

Move Wyze Lock Gateway within 15 feet of lock
Restart gateway by unplugging for 10 seconds
Recalibrate lock in Wyze app settings
Replace lock batteries with fresh alkaline AA
Adjust deadbolt alignment to reduce binding
Update gateway and lock firmware

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If the keypad rejects valid codes, a lockout timer may be running — five failed entries locks most keypads silently for 5–10 minutes.

Pro Tip

Enable auto-lock set to lock after 1 to 5 minutes of being unlocked to ensure your door is always secured.

Real-World Insight

Most smart lock failures people label as hardware issues turn out to be a code wiped during a sync, or a setting reset nobody remembers triggering.
