TP-Link is merging its Kasa and Tapo product lines into the Tapo app, and after linking your Kasa account to Tapo some or all of your Kasa devices are missing. The Tapo app shows your Tapo devices but none of your Kasa smart plugs, switches, or cameras appear. Automations, schedules, and energy monitoring data tied to those Kasa devices are gone. The Kasa app still works for now but TP-Link is pushing users to migrate, and the transition is not smooth.

Check account compatibility

The Kasa-to-Tapo migration only works if both accounts use the exact same email address. If you created your Kasa account with one email and your Tapo account with another, they cannot be linked and your Kasa devices will not appear. Open the Kasa app and check your account email under Settings > Account. Then check the Tapo app. If they are different, you need to either change one or create a new Tapo account with the matching email before attempting the migration again.

Update Kasa device firmware first

Before migrating, open the Kasa app and check each device for firmware updates. Tap each device > Settings > Firmware Update. Older Kasa devices need a specific firmware version to be compatible with the Tapo cloud. If a device has a pending update, install it and wait for the device to reboot. Some devices like the KE100 and KE110 are not compatible with Tapo at all and will never appear — check TP-Link's compatibility list at tp-link.com/faq/3762 before assuming something is broken.

Re-link voice assistants

After migrating to the Tapo app, your Google Home and Alexa integrations will not automatically follow. Google Home and Alexa still have the old Kasa skill linked. Go to Google Home > Settings > Works with Google > TP-Link Kasa and unlink it. Then add the TP-Link Tapo integration and sign in with your Tapo account. Same process for Alexa — disable the Kasa skill in the Alexa app, enable the Tapo skill, and run device discovery. Your devices will appear under new names and you will need to reassign them to rooms.

Recreate your automations

Kasa schedules and automations do not transfer to the Tapo app. The two apps use different automation engines. Open the Kasa app and screenshot all your schedules, timers, and away mode settings for each device. Then recreate them manually in the Tapo app under the Smart Actions section. Tapo actually has more powerful automation options than Kasa including sunrise/sunset triggers and multi-device scenes, so the rebuild might end up being an upgrade.

Keep Kasa app as fallback

Do not delete the Kasa app yet. TP-Link has not announced a firm shutdown date for the Kasa cloud, and some older devices may never be compatible with Tapo. Keep both apps installed and use the Kasa app for any devices that do not appear in Tapo. If a device works in Kasa but not Tapo, it is either not compatible or needs a firmware update that has not rolled out to your region yet. TP-Link is doing a phased migration and not all features are available in Tapo for all Kasa models at launch.
