Why Is Phyn Usage Timeline Missing Recent Events?
- Device offline during the events
- Cloud sync delay
- App not refreshed
Problem Description
The Phyn app's usage timeline does not show recent water events — the timeline appears empty or stops at an older date. The app may need a manual refresh, the device may have been offline during the events, the date range may be incorrect, the water events may have been too small to register, or the app's local cache may be corrupted.
Why This Happens in Real Homes
Missing recent events in the Phyn usage timeline usually mean the data hasn't synced yet or the device was offline when the water was used — the timeline is built from readings the device uploads, so a connection gap or a sync delay leaves holes. Recent events also sometimes take a little time to process and appear.
Confirm the device was online during the period in question, give cloud sync some time to catch up, and refresh the app (pull to refresh). If the device is online but the timeline stays incomplete, improve its connection and reboot it so it resumes uploading. Clear the app cache, update the app and firmware, and check Phyn's service status if entries are consistently missing.
Symptoms
- Usage timeline missing recent events
- Recent water use not shown
- Timeline gaps
- Events missing from history
- Timeline not updating
- Delayed timeline entries
- Some events absent
- History incomplete
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Device offline during the events
- Cloud sync delay
- App not refreshed
- Weak connection dropping data
- Events still processing
- App cache stale
- Firmware issue
- Backend delay
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Do not assume no events occurred when telemetry ingestion is degraded.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Pull down to refresh the usage timeline
The Phyn app caches timeline data and may not automatically update. Pull down on the Usage Timeline screen to trigger a manual refresh from the cloud. If recent events appear after pulling: the app was just displaying stale cached data. If events are still missing: the device may not have uploaded recent data to the cloud (connectivity issue) or the events occurred too recently to have been processed (Phyn's cloud processing has a short delay of 1-5 minutes).
Check that the Phyn device is online and sending data
If the device went offline: events that occurred during the offline period are not available in the timeline (the Phyn Plus has limited local buffering). Check the device status in the app. If offline: fix the WiFi connection. After reconnecting: some recent data may backfill, but extended offline periods result in timeline gaps. The Phyn Plus stores recent events locally for a short period and uploads when connectivity resumes.
Verify the timeline date range
The usage timeline has a date selector. If you are looking at the wrong date: recent events do not appear. Check the date displayed at the top of the timeline. Swipe or tap to go to today's date. Also check the timezone: if the Phyn cloud account timezone differs from your local timezone: events may appear on the wrong day. Update the timezone in the Phyn app: Settings > Account > Timezone.
Check if the events were too small to register
Very small water events (a quick hand wash, a brief faucet rinse of 2-3 seconds) may be below the Phyn's minimum detection threshold. The sensor has a minimum flow rate it can distinguish from noise. Events below this threshold are not recorded in the timeline. This is normal behavior — the Phyn focuses on significant water use and leak detection, not micro-events.
Reinstall the app if the timeline is persistently empty
If the timeline is completely empty despite the device being online and water being used: the app's local database may be corrupted. Delete and reinstall the Phyn app. Log in. The timeline data is stored in the cloud, so reinstalling does not lose historical data — it re-downloads from the Phyn servers. After reinstalling: allow 1-2 minutes for the timeline to populate with historical and recent events.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If this comes back after following these steps, check whether a recent app or firmware update reset a default setting — the fix works, but the setting gets reverted silently.
Timeline completeness is critical for leak-pattern interpretation.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
- Device offline during the events
- Cloud sync delay
- App not refreshed
- Weak connection dropping data
- Events still processing
Before you go — try one of these (they fix most cases).
