Problem Description

You factory reset a SONOFF Zigbee device (SNZB-01, SNZB-02, SNZB-03, SNZB-04, or ZBMINI) and it will not rejoin the SONOFF Zigbee Bridge or Zigbee Bridge Pro. The bridge may not be in pairing mode, the device may still be bound to a previous coordinator, or the bridge may have reached its device limit (32 on the original ZBBridge, 128 on the ZBBridge-P).

Why This Happens in Real Homes

When a freshly reset SONOFF Zigbee device won't join the bridge, the two aren't completing the Zigbee pairing — usually because the bridge isn't in add mode, the device is too far away, or Zigbee interference (often from a WiFi channel overlapping Zigbee's) is disrupting the join. A weak sensor battery also prevents pairing.

Put the bridge into Zigbee pairing/add mode and pair the device right next to it, with a fresh battery in the sensor, then relocate it afterward. Reduce interference by moving your 2.4GHz WiFi to a channel that doesn't overlap the Zigbee channel, and make sure the device is fully reset and the bridge isn't at its device limit. For distant devices, a mains-powered Zigbee router extends the mesh so they can join and stay connected.

Symptoms

  • Zigbee device won't join the bridge after reset
  • Won't pair to the Zigbee Bridge
  • Not found by the bridge
  • Pairing fails after factory reset
  • SNZB device won't add
  • Bridge doesn't detect it
  • Join times out
  • Reset device won't onboard

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Bridge not in pairing/add mode
  • Device too far from the bridge
  • Zigbee interference (WiFi channel overlap)
  • Low/weak battery in the sensor
  • Bridge at its device limit
  • Device not fully reset
  • Weak Zigbee mesh (no routers)
  • Firmware issue

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Do not move device to final location before successful stable inclusion.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Put the Zigbee Bridge in pairing mode

The SONOFF Zigbee Bridge (ZBBridge) or Zigbee Bridge Pro (ZBBridge-P) must be in pairing mode to accept new devices. In eWeLink, tap the bridge device > tap 'Add Sub-device' or the + icon > the bridge enters pairing mode for 120 seconds. The bridge LED typically changes color or blinks to indicate pairing mode. If you do not use the app to start pairing mode, the bridge ignores join requests from Zigbee devices — this is a security feature to prevent unauthorized devices from joining.

2

Factory reset the Zigbee device

The Zigbee sensor or switch must be in its own pairing mode (not joined to any network). If the device was previously paired to another coordinator (a different Zigbee Bridge, ZHA, Zigbee2MQTT): it will not join a new network without a factory reset. Reset methods vary by device: SONOFF SNZB-01 (button): hold the button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes 3 times. SNZB-02 (temp sensor): hold the reset pin with a paperclip for 5 seconds. SNZB-03 (motion): hold the reset button for 5 seconds. SNZB-04 (contact): hold the reset button for 5 seconds. The LED flashes to confirm the reset.

3

Bring the device close to the bridge

During initial pairing, place the Zigbee device within 2 meters of the bridge. Zigbee pairing involves a key exchange that is more sensitive to signal quality than normal operation. After pairing succeeds, you can move the device to its final location — Zigbee mesh devices relay traffic, so operating range is much larger than pairing range. If pairing fails even at close range: check for WiFi interference. The Zigbee Bridge Pro operates on Zigbee channel 11 by default (2.405 GHz), which overlaps with WiFi channel 1.

4

Check the bridge's device limit

The original SONOFF Zigbee Bridge (ZBBridge) supports a maximum of 32 paired Zigbee devices. The Zigbee Bridge Pro (ZBBridge-P) supports up to 128 devices. If you are at the limit: the bridge silently rejects new join requests. Check in eWeLink > bridge device > Sub-devices list and count them. If you are at 32 on the original bridge: upgrade to the Bridge Pro, or remove devices you no longer use to free up slots.

5

Update the bridge firmware

SONOFF has released multiple firmware updates for the Zigbee bridges that fix pairing issues with specific Zigbee 3.0 device profiles. In eWeLink > bridge device > ··· > Firmware Update. Install any available update — the bridge reboots (takes 1-2 minutes) and existing paired devices reconnect automatically. If the bridge firmware is already up to date but pairing still fails: try pairing the Zigbee device to a different coordinator (ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT with a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus) to verify the device itself is not defective.

Quick Solutions

Put the bridge in Zigbee pairing/add mode
Pair the device close to the bridge
Reduce Zigbee/WiFi interference (change WiFi channel)
Install a fresh battery in the sensor
Check the bridge isn't at its device limit
Fully factory reset the device, then join
Add a Zigbee router to extend the mesh
Update the bridge firmware

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If the hub reconnects then drops every few minutes, check for an IP conflict — two devices sharing the same DHCP address fight each other continuously.

Pro Tip

Controlled join conditions prevent repeated orphaned pairing attempts.

Real-World Insight

Hub disconnections that cycle repeatedly are almost always IP conflicts — two devices fighting over the same DHCP lease after a router restart.

What Usually Goes Wrong
  • Bridge not in pairing/add mode
  • Device too far from the bridge
  • Zigbee interference (WiFi channel overlap)
  • Low/weak battery in the sensor
  • Bridge at its device limit
