Overview
The KS230M Kit supports 3-way and 4-way setups with a Matter-capable primary and add-ons. This guide identifies line and load, wires all three locations, and commissions the kit over Matter.
Why This Happens in Real Homes
The KS230M Kit supports 3-way and 4-way setups with a Matter-capable primary and add-ons. This guide identifies line and load, wires all three locations, and commissions the kit over Matter. In day-to-day use, this usually looks like Existing 4-way switched circuit; Three switch boxes accessible; Neutral in every box.
Most cases trace back to Traveler wires confused; No neutral in one box; Primary and add-on reversed. The fix works best when you go step by step instead of changing multiple settings at once.
A practical order for this issue is: Kill and Test -> Identify Line and Load -> Wire Primary -> Wire Add-Ons. After each step, test the exact behavior that was failing so you can confirm what actually solved it.
What's Included
- Existing 4-way switched circuit
- Three switch boxes accessible
- Neutral in every box
- Kasa app installed
- Matter hub active
- Voltage tester
Got your materials ready? Here's what to check first.
Before You Start
- Traveler wires confused
- No neutral in one box
- Primary and add-on reversed
- Box crowded
- Matter pair fails
- Wrong wire to common
Don't skip this step — it breaks everything if you do
Do not run without proper common wire identification. An incorrect common will keep the circuit from switching on at all.
