- HomeKit Secure Video not enabled on doorbell
- No compatible Home Hub available
- iCloud storage plan insufficient
Problem Description
Your TP-Link Kasa doorbell works in the Kasa app but video does not show in Apple Home. The doorbell appears as a device but tapping it shows nothing or an error. HomeKit Secure Video was the reason you bought this doorbell but you cannot use it.
Symptoms
- Doorbell in Apple Home but no video stream
- Error when trying to view doorbell in Home
- Video works in Kasa but not Apple Home
- HomeKit Secure Video not recording
- Doorbell shows as no response in Home
- Added to Home but cannot control or view
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- HomeKit Secure Video not enabled on doorbell
- No compatible Home Hub available
- iCloud storage plan insufficient
- HomeKit setup incomplete
- Firmware needs update for HomeKit features
- Network blocking HomeKit communication
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Removing from Apple Home deletes any HomeKit Secure Video recordings associated with that doorbell.
Step-by-Step Solution
Enable HomeKit Secure Video
In the Kasa app tap your doorbell and go to settings. Look for HomeKit or Apple Home section. Enable HomeKit Secure Video. This separate toggle controls whether video is shared with Apple Home beyond basic device integration.
Verify Home Hub Status
HomeKit Secure Video requires a Home Hub which is HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K. In the Apple Home app go to Home Settings and check Home Hubs. At least one must show Connected. Without a hub HSV cannot function.
Check iCloud Storage
HomeKit Secure Video recordings are stored in iCloud. You need at least the 200GB plan to record from one camera. The 2TB plan supports up to 5 cameras. Go to Settings then your name then iCloud and check storage plan.
Re-add to Apple Home
If HomeKit integration is broken remove the doorbell from Apple Home app and re-add it. In Kasa app go to doorbell settings and HomeKit then remove from Home. Then scan the HomeKit code again in Apple Home app.
Update Doorbell Firmware
HomeKit features are added and improved via firmware updates. In Kasa app check for doorbell updates under device info. Install any available updates. Restart the doorbell after updating.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
Camera issues that start suddenly almost always trace back to an upload bandwidth drop — run a speed test before assuming hardware failure.
HomeKit Secure Video records are separate from Kasa cloud recordings. You may have recordings in one system but not the other.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.

- No compatible Home Hub available
- iCloud storage plan insufficient
- HomeKit setup incomplete
- Firmware needs update for HomeKit features
Before you go — try one of these (they fix most cases).
