Problem Description

Your Ecovacs Deebot mopping function leaves visible streaks on hard floors, fails to dispense water onto the mop pad, or drags a completely dry mop across the floor. Streaks are caused either by a dirty or oversaturated mop pad redistributing dirty water, or insufficient water flow for the floor coverage. A dry mop usually points to an empty or incorrectly seated water tank, a clogged pump filter, or a water flow setting left on low.

Symptoms

  • Mopping pad is dry after a cleaning run
  • Water streaks and dirty smears left on the floor
  • Water tank shows full but no water reaches the pad
  • Robot mops carpet areas even though carpet avoidance is enabled
  • Mopping pad falls off during cleaning
  • OZMO oscillating mop pad vibrates but does not clean effectively

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Water tank not properly seated or the valve is clogged
  • Mopping water flow set too low in the app
  • Mopping pad dirty or worn out and not absorbing properly
  • Water tank filter or pump blocked by mineral deposits
  • Carpet detection disabled so robot mops carpeted areas
  • OZMO pad plate not attached firmly to the robot base

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

{"Never add bleach, vinegar, or essential oils to the water tank as these can damage seals and the pump","Do not mop unsealed wood, laminate with visible seam gaps, or any floor type that is not water-safe"}

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Check and Set Mopping Mode in the App

Open the Ecovacs Home app and tap the robot. In the cleaning settings, ensure the mode is set to Auto or Mopping rather than Vacuuming only. When the robot is set to vacuum-only mode it ignores the mop attachment. Also check the water flow level — if it is set to Low, the mop pad will feel nearly dry. Set it to Medium or High and run a short test cycle to confirm water dispenses.

2

Reseat the Water Tank Fully

Remove the water tank from the robot completely and reinsert it, pressing firmly until you feel or hear a click. A tank that appears installed but is 1 to 2mm out of position will not connect to the pump inlet and dispenses no water. Also inspect the rubber gasket around the tank outlet port — if it is folded or deformed, water will not seal and flow to the pump. Straighten the gasket and reseat the tank before testing.

3

Clean the Water Tank Outlet Filter

Remove the water tank and look at the bottom where water exits into the robot body. There is a small mesh filter or screen. Remove it and rinse under running water. Hard water deposits and debris clog this filter and block water flow entirely. Use a toothpick or soft brush to clear deposits from the mesh. Reinstall the filter, reseat the tank, and run a short mop cycle immediately after.

4

Wash and Replace the Mop Pads

Old or oversaturated mop pads can redistribute dirty water rather than absorbing it, leaving streaks even when the pump dispenses correctly. Wash mop pads after every 3 to 4 uses with hot water and no fabric softener — fabric softener coats the fibers and reduces absorption. If pads are more than 2 months old or visibly discolored, replace them. A fresh pad on a clean floor reveals whether the streaking was the pad or the water flow.

5

Test Pump Function on a Hard Surface

Place the robot on a towel on a hard floor with the water tank installed. Start a Mop Only cleaning cycle from the app and watch the mop pad area for water within 30 to 45 seconds. You should see the pad become visibly damp. If no water appears and you hear no pump sound, the water pump has likely failed. Contact Ecovacs support — pump failures within the first year are covered under warranty.

Quick Solutions

Check and Reseat the Water Tank
Increase Water Flow in the App
Replace or Clean the Mopping Pad
Fix Streaking on Floors
Enable Carpet Avoidance

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If the robot returns to the dock mid-clean, moved furniture may have invalidated its map — a fresh floor scan resolves the majority of navigation failures.

Pro Tip

{"For auto-wash dock models, clean the dock wash basin weekly to prevent mold and odor","Use distilled water in hard water areas to prevent mineral clogging of the water valve","Replace reusable mopping pads every 2 to 3 months depending on frequency of use","Run vacuum-only mode first on very dirty floors then follow with a mop-only pass for best results"}

Real-World Insight

Over-saturation complaints spike in humid conditions — ambient humidity causes the mop pad to hold more water, compounding the pump output on the same flow setting.

What Usually Goes Wrong
  • Water tank not properly seated or the valve is
  • Mopping water flow set too low in the app
  • Mopping pad dirty or worn out and not absorbing
  • Water tank filter or pump blocked by mineral deposits
  • Carpet detection disabled so robot mops carpeted areas
