- Camera WiFi connection is marginal causing stream timeouts
- Wyze server congestion during peak hours
- Camera firmware needs update to fix streaming bug
Problem Description
Your Wyze Cam shows connection failed with error code 90 when you try to view the live stream. The camera may be powered on with a solid blue light indicating it is connected to WiFi but the app cannot pull up the video feed. Error 90 is a connection timeout meaning the app cannot establish a video stream from the camera through Wyze servers to your phone. This is one of the most common Wyze errors and Wyze support gives generic advice that rarely fixes it.
Symptoms
- Live view shows connection failed error code 90
- Camera status light is solid blue but app cannot connect
- Error 90 appears on one camera but others work fine
- Error happens on cellular data but works on WiFi or vice versa
- Camera connected yesterday but error 90 today
- Error 90 appears after Wyze app update
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Camera WiFi connection is marginal causing stream timeouts
- Wyze server congestion during peak hours
- Camera firmware needs update to fix streaming bug
- App cache corrupted preventing video stream establishment
- Router firewall blocking ports needed for video streaming
- Camera local storage full causing firmware slowdown
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Formatting the microSD card erases all locally stored recordings permanently. If you need to save any footage download it from the Wyze app playback before formatting. Cloud-stored events in the Events tab are not affected by formatting the card.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Power Cycle the Camera
Unplug the Wyze Cam for 10 seconds and plug back in. Wait for the status light to turn solid blue which takes about 60 seconds. Then try live view. A power cycle restarts the video streaming process on the camera which is the fastest fix for error 90. If the camera is in a hard to reach location you can also restart it from the Wyze app under Device Settings then Restart Device if the app can still communicate with it.
Clear App Cache
On Android go to Settings then Apps then Wyze then Storage then Clear Cache. On iPhone delete and reinstall the Wyze app. Corrupted cache data causes the app to fail at establishing the video stream handshake even when the camera is perfectly connected. After clearing try live view again. Many users report this instantly fixes error 90.
Check WiFi Signal at Camera
In the Wyze app go to the camera then Settings then Device Info and check WiFi signal strength. If it shows 1 bar or says poor the camera cannot maintain a stable video upload stream. The camera may stay connected to WiFi for basic communication but video streaming requires much more bandwidth. Move the camera closer to the router or add a WiFi extender near the camera location.
Update Camera Firmware
In the Wyze app tap the camera then Settings then Device Info then check for firmware update. Wyze frequently releases firmware updates that fix streaming bugs causing error 90. If the camera is too disconnected for over-the-air update you can manually flash firmware by downloading it from the Wyze website putting it on a microSD card and inserting it into the camera while powering on.
Format MicroSD Card
If the camera has a microSD card that is full or corrupted it can slow down the camera firmware causing stream timeouts. In the Wyze app go to camera Settings then Advanced Settings then Local Storage then Format. This erases all local recordings and gives the camera a clean storage state. If the card is failing replace it with a new high-endurance microSD card rated for continuous recording.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If the keypad rejects valid codes, a lockout timer may be running — five failed entries locks most keypads silently for 5–10 minutes.
If error 90 only happens on cellular data but works on WiFi your cellular network may be blocking the ports Wyze uses for video streaming. Try connecting to a different WiFi network to confirm. Some corporate or public WiFi networks also block these ports.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
