- Camera battery completely depleted
- Base station lost WiFi connection to router
- Camera too far from base station exceeding wireless range
Problem Description
Your Wyze Cam Outdoor shows as offline in the Wyze app and will not connect for live view or event playback. The camera may have been working fine and then suddenly stopped responding. The camera LED may be off or flashing amber indicating a connection problem. Wyze Cam Outdoor relies on a base station for connectivity making it different from the WiFi-connected Wyze Cam V3. Connection issues are typically caused by base station problems wireless range or battery depletion.
Symptoms
- Camera shows offline in Wyze app
- Live view fails with connection error
- Camera was working but went offline suddenly
- Camera LED is off or flashing amber
- Base station shows solid blue but camera offline
- Camera connects briefly then disconnects again
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Camera battery completely depleted
- Base station lost WiFi connection to router
- Camera too far from base station exceeding wireless range
- Base station needs restart to clear connection issues
- Camera firmware needs update
- WiFi router changed settings or rebooted
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
The Wyze Cam Outdoor battery charges slowly when temperatures are below freezing. If your camera stopped working during winter the cold may have accelerated battery drain and prevented charging. Bring it inside to warm up before charging.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Check Camera Battery
The Wyze Cam Outdoor runs on battery and does not stream constantly to save power. If the battery is completely dead the camera cannot respond at all. Bring the camera inside and charge it using the included magnetic USB cable. Charge to at least 50 percent before testing. A fully depleted battery can take 4 to 6 hours to reach full charge.
Restart Base Station
Unplug the Wyze Cam Outdoor base station from power for 10 seconds and plug back in. Wait 2 minutes for it to fully boot. The base station LED should turn solid blue indicating a good connection. The base station acts as a bridge between the camera and your WiFi network. If the base station is offline all connected outdoor cameras will be offline too.
Check Base Station WiFi
The base station connects to your WiFi router via Ethernet cable. Check that the Ethernet cable is firmly connected at both the base station and router. If the cable is loose or the router changed networks the base station loses internet and cannot relay camera data to the cloud. Try a different Ethernet cable if the connection seems intermittent.
Check Wireless Range
The camera communicates with the base station over a proprietary wireless connection not WiFi. The effective range is about 300 feet in open air but walls and obstacles reduce this significantly. If the camera is mounted far from the base station or separated by multiple walls move the base station closer to the camera location or to a central point between camera and router.
Re-Pair Camera
If the camera still does not connect delete it from the Wyze app and re-add it. Put the camera into pairing mode by pressing and holding the sync button on the back until the LED flashes blue. In the Wyze app add new device and select Wyze Cam Outdoor. Follow the pairing steps using the base station. The camera should pair and come online within 2 minutes.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
This usually happens right after a router reboot or ISP change — the device rejoins the network but drops its cloud session silently.
Keep the base station in a central elevated location for best wireless coverage to outdoor cameras. Avoid placing it in a basement or closet where the wireless signal to the cameras will be significantly weakened.
Most WiFi drop-offs happen right after a router reboot or ISP swap — the device reconnects to the network but silently loses its cloud registration.
