- Camera WiFi signal too weak for real-time video streaming
- Wyze servers overloaded during peak usage preventing stream relay
- Router firewall blocking UDP traffic used for peer-to-peer video
Problem Description
When you try to view your Wyze camera live feed the app shows Error Code 06 which means connection timeout. The app attempted to establish a video stream with the camera but the connection was not established within the timeout window. This is the most commonly reported Wyze error code. Error 06 can be caused by the camera having a weak WiFi signal, your phone network being too slow, Wyze servers being overloaded, or a firewall blocking the peer-to-peer connection that Wyze uses for live streaming. The camera may still be recording to the SD card locally even though you cannot view the live feed.
Symptoms
- Wyze app shows Error Code 06 when tapping live view on a camera
- Camera was working earlier but now shows error 06 consistently
- Some cameras show error 06 while others on the same network work fine
- Error 06 appears on both WiFi and cellular connections
- Camera shows online in device list but live stream will not connect
- Error started after a Wyze app update or camera firmware update
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Camera WiFi signal too weak for real-time video streaming
- Wyze servers overloaded during peak usage preventing stream relay
- Router firewall blocking UDP traffic used for peer-to-peer video
- Camera firmware outdated or bugged after recent update
- ISP using CGNAT preventing direct camera-to-phone connection
- Too many Wyze cameras streaming simultaneously on the same network
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
If you have an SD card in the camera it continues recording locally even during error 06. You will not lose footage. Once the connection is restored you can view the SD card recordings through Playback in the Wyze app.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Power Cycle the Camera
Unplug the Wyze camera power cable from the USB port on the camera or from the power adapter. Wait 10 seconds. Plug it back in. The camera will reboot taking about 60 to 90 seconds. The status light will turn solid blue when ready. Try live view again. A simple power cycle resolves error 06 about 50 percent of the time by reestablishing the camera network connection from scratch.
Clear Wyze App Cache
On Android go to Settings then Apps then Wyze then Storage then Clear Cache. Do not tap Clear Data as that will log you out. On iPhone delete the Wyze app and reinstall it from the App Store. After clearing cache open the app and try live view. Corrupted cached data in the app is a common cause of persistent error 06 that survives camera power cycles.
Check Camera WiFi Signal
In the Wyze app tap the camera then the gear icon then Device Info. Check the WiFi signal strength. If it shows 1 or 2 bars the signal is too weak for reliable streaming. Move the camera closer to the router or add a WiFi extender within 15 feet of the camera. Wyze cameras need at least 2 Mbps upload speed at their location for stable live view.
Update Camera Firmware
In the Wyze app tap the camera then the gear icon then Device Info then Firmware Version. If an update is available tap Update. Outdated firmware can cause error 06 especially after Wyze server-side changes that require newer firmware for compatibility. The update takes 3 to 5 minutes during which the camera is unavailable. Do not unplug the camera during a firmware update.
Check Router and Network Settings
Wyze cameras use UDP for peer-to-peer video streaming. Some routers block UDP or have strict firewall settings that prevent this connection. Log into your router and ensure UPnP is enabled. If you have a firewall or security suite on your network add an exception for the camera IP address. Also check that your ISP is not using CGNAT which blocks incoming peer connections. If CGNAT is active contact your ISP to request a public IP or use Wyze web view at view.wyze.com as an alternative.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If the keypad rejects valid codes, a lockout timer may be running — five failed entries locks most keypads silently for 5–10 minutes.
If error 06 happens on all cameras simultaneously it is almost certainly a Wyze server issue not your network. Check downdetector.com/status/wyze or the Wyze subreddit for reports from other users. Wyze servers occasionally experience outages during peak evening hours that resolve within 1 to 2 hours.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
