Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Camera too far from router
- Wrong WiFi password
- Router on 5GHz not 2.4GHz
- Too many network devices
- Weak WiFi signal
- Corrupted firmware
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Avoid placing Wyze cameras near microwaves or baby monitors that interfere with 2.4GHz signal.
Step-by-Step Solution
Verify WiFi Settings
Wyze cameras only work with 2.4GHz WiFi. Check connecting to 2.4GHz network not 5GHz. Network name often ends in _2G. Verify correct password with proper capitalization.
Check Signal Strength
Error 20 often means weak signal. Move camera closer to router temporarily. If connects when closer, final location needs WiFi extender. Need at least 2 Mbps upload.
Power Cycle Everything
Unplug router 60 seconds, replug and wait 3 minutes. Then unplug Wyze camera 10 seconds and replug. Wait for full boot and try connecting.
Reduce Network Congestion
Too many devices cause error 20. Temporarily disconnect other 2.4GHz devices. Consider dedicated IoT network for smart home devices.
Factory Reset Camera
For Wyze Cam v3, hold Setup button 20 seconds while plugged in until Ready to connect. Set up as new device in Wyze app.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If the keypad rejects valid codes, a lockout timer may be running — five failed entries locks most keypads silently for 5–10 minutes.
Error 20 can occur if router has MAC filtering. Check router settings and whitelist Wyze camera MAC address.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
