Overview

This guide explains how to set up a SwitchBot Hub (Hub 2 or Hub Mini), which connects your Bluetooth-enabled SwitchBot devices to the internet. It covers connecting to Wi-Fi, adding the hub to the SwitchBot app, and using it for remote control and voice commands.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

The SwitchBot Hub (Hub 2 or Hub Mini) does two jobs: it bridges your Bluetooth SwitchBot devices to WiFi for remote control, and it acts as an infrared blaster for your AC, TV, and other IR gear. It connects on 2.4GHz WiFi only, which is the usual setup snag, and it needs clear line of sight to the IR devices it controls.

Put the Hub in pairing mode with your phone nearby and the app granted Bluetooth and location permissions, then join it to a 2.4GHz network with the correct password. Place it centrally with good WiFi and pointing toward the appliances it will blast IR to. Install any firmware update, and on the Hub 2 you can then set up Matter to share devices with other platforms.

What's Included

  • Setting up the Hub 2 or Hub Mini
  • Won't connect to WiFi
  • App can't find the Hub
  • IR setup questions
  • Adding devices to the Hub
  • Matter setup (Hub 2)
  • Hub offline after setup
  • Placement questions

Got your materials ready? Here's what to check first.

Before You Start

  • Connecting to 5GHz instead of 2.4GHz WiFi
  • Hub not in pairing mode
  • Phone/app Bluetooth or permissions off
  • Weak WiFi where the Hub sits
  • Wrong WiFi password
  • IR devices not in line of sight
  • Firmware update pending
  • Router blocking the device

Don't skip this step — it breaks everything if you do

Warning

SwitchBot Hubs only connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks. They are not compatible with 5GHz networks.

Installation Steps

1

Power On the Hub

Plug your SwitchBot Hub into a power outlet using the provided USB cable and power adapter. The device will power on, and an indicator light will typically start blinking, showing that it is ready to be configured and connected to your network.

2

Add Hub in SwitchBot App

Open the SwitchBot app on your smartphone. Tap the '+' icon to add a new device and select your Hub model (Hub 2 or Hub Mini) from the list. The app will then guide you through the process of connecting the Hub to your home's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.

3

Connect Your SwitchBot Devices

Once the Hub is online, you can link your existing SwitchBot devices (like the Curtain or Bot) to it. In the settings for each device within the app, enable 'Cloud Service'. This allows the Hub to control them, enabling remote access and voice assistant integration.

4

Set Up IR and Matter

Use the 'Smart Learning' feature to have the Hub learn the IR signals from your TV or air conditioner remotes. If you have a Matter-enabled Hub, you can also enable Matter integration in the settings to connect your SwitchBot ecosystem to Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa.

Installation Tips

Connect the Hub to a 2.4GHz WiFi network
Put the Hub in pairing mode and keep the phone close
Enable Bluetooth/location permissions for the app
Place the Hub with strong WiFi and clear IR line of sight
Re-enter the correct WiFi password
Position the Hub facing the IR devices it will control
Install any firmware update
Allow the device on the router if blocked

Still stuck? This is usually the deeper cause below.

Pro Tip

Place the SwitchBot Hub in a central location for the best Bluetooth range to all your SwitchBot devices.
