- Provisioning needs Bluetooth but the phone's Bluetooth is off
- Router using 5GHz or a combined-band SSID
- Konnect app not updated to match the device firmware
Problem Description
The Kohler Konnect app cannot find or connect to your Kohler smart toilet, shower, or bathroom device during setup or after a router change. The app searches but times out, or the device shows as offline after initial setup. Kohler Konnect devices require 2.4GHz WiFi and the app needs precise Bluetooth proximity during the initial provisioning handshake before switching to WiFi operation.
Why This Happens in Real Homes
Kohler Konnect devices provision in two stages: the app first talks to the device over Bluetooth to pass your WiFi credentials, then the device switches to 2.4GHz WiFi for normal operation. That design explains the two biggest setup failures. If the phone's Bluetooth is off, the initial handshake can't happen and the wizard times out. And because the device runs on 2.4GHz, a router serving only 5GHz or band-steering both bands under one SSID hands off credentials the device can't use - connecting your phone to a plain 2.4GHz WPA2 network for setup avoids both problems.
Security and state cause the rest. WPA3-only routers are rejected by older Kohler firmware, so drop to WPA2 (or mixed) for pairing. A previous half-finished setup can leave the device stuck, and the clean fix is a factory reset - typically holding the device's reset button for about ten seconds - before trying again. Keep the Konnect app updated so it matches the device firmware, make sure your phone and the device end up on the same subnet (guest networks and some VLANs block local discovery), and confirm the 2.4GHz signal actually reaches the fixture. Once provisioned, a device that later shows offline after a router reboot usually just needs a reserved DHCP IP to stay reliably reachable.
Symptoms
- Konnect app can't find the device during setup
- Device appears briefly then shows unreachable
- Setup wizard times out without registering the device
- Device connected once but went offline after a router reboot
- App discovers the device but can't finish authentication
- Konnect shows the device online but controls don't respond
- Provisioning fails at the WiFi hand-off
- Works on the local network but not remotely
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Provisioning needs Bluetooth but the phone's Bluetooth is off
- Router using 5GHz or a combined-band SSID
- Konnect app not updated to match the device firmware
- A previous incomplete setup left the device in a stuck state
- Router set to WPA3-only, rejected by older Kohler firmware
- Phone and device on different subnets, blocking discovery
- Weak 2.4GHz signal at the device location
- Router isolating smart-home/IoT devices
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Do not attempt to provision a Kohler Konnect device from a commercial or guest WiFi network. These networks often use client isolation which permanently prevents local device control.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Enable Bluetooth and Stand Next to Device
Kohler Konnect uses Bluetooth for the initial device provisioning step before switching to WiFi for ongoing operation. Enable Bluetooth on your phone before opening the Konnect app. Stand within 1 metre of the Kohler device during the entire setup process. If your phone Bluetooth is off or the phone is more than 2 metres away the provisioning handshake will fail before the device receives your WiFi credentials. Keep Bluetooth on until the app confirms successful WiFi connection.
Verify 2.4GHz WPA2 Network
Kohler Konnect devices only support 2.4GHz WiFi with WPA2 security. Log into your router and confirm the 2.4GHz SSID is separate from the 5GHz network name. Temporarily set 2.4GHz security to WPA2 Personal only if mixed WPA2/WPA3 is configured. Connect your phone to this 2.4GHz network before opening Konnect. During the setup wizard when prompted to select a network only networks your phone is currently connected to are shown correctly.
Update Konnect App and Reset Device
Open the App Store or Google Play and update Kohler Konnect to the latest version. Older versions have known pairing failures with Numi 2.0 and DTV+ devices. After updating factory reset the Kohler device by holding its network reset button for 10 seconds until the LED indicator flashes rapidly. This clears any incomplete setup state. Restart the Konnect app and run the Add Device wizard from the beginning with Bluetooth enabled and standing next to the device.
Check Router Subnet and Isolation Settings
If the device completes setup but appears offline verify your router does not have AP Isolation or Client Isolation enabled on the 2.4GHz band. These router features prevent devices on the same WiFi network from communicating with each other which blocks the Konnect app from reaching the Kohler device locally. Log into your router admin panel and disable AP Isolation for the 2.4GHz band. Also confirm the phone and Kohler device are on the same IP subnet.
Contact Kohler Konnect Support
If the device still cannot be paired after following all steps contact Kohler Konnect support at 1-866-887-2731 and provide the device model number and firmware version shown in the app. Some device firmware versions require a factory-initiated OTA update before WiFi provisioning works correctly. Kohler support can push a firmware reset to your registered device remotely if the device has at least been detected once via Bluetooth during a prior setup attempt.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If this comes back after following these steps, check whether a recent app or firmware update reset a default setting — the fix works, but the setting gets reverted silently.
Write down your WiFi network name and password before starting Kohler Konnect setup. The wizard requires exact credential entry and autocorrect on mobile keyboards often changes characters silently.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
