- WiFi connection unstable or device too far from router
- Device firmware or app needs updating
- Device not properly set up during initial pairing
Problem Description
Your YoLink sensor is not connecting to your YoLink Hub. In the YoLink app the sensor shows as offline, unreachable, or simply does not appear. YoLink sensors use LoRa sub-GHz wireless (915MHz in North America) — not WiFi, Zigbee, or Z-Wave. They communicate exclusively with the YoLink Hub, which connects to your router via ethernet. If the hub loses its internet connection, every sensor attached to it will show offline regardless of battery status. Most connection failures trace back to the hub being offline, a depleted battery, or a lost pairing link.
Symptoms
- Device shows as offline in the app
- Device does not respond to commands
- App cannot connect to device
- Features not working as expected
- Device disconnects frequently
- Automations fail to trigger
- Voice commands not recognized
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- WiFi connection unstable or device too far from router
- Device firmware or app needs updating
- Device not properly set up during initial pairing
- Power supply issue or loose connection
- Account not linked correctly
- Too many devices causing network congestion
- Interference from other wireless devices
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
YoLink requires their hub - sensors won't work with SmartThings or other hubs.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Confirm hub online status and firmware currency
Check the YoLink hub is online and fully updated before pairing attempts, because outdated hub firmware can reject valid sensor join requests.
Reset sensor and verify pairing readiness indicator
Factory reset the sensor and confirm it enters pairing mode correctly, since retained old binding state often blocks new hub association.
Pair near hub to maximize signal reliability
Perform initial join close to the hub before final placement, because range and obstruction issues can mask successful pairing capability.
Check account ownership and hub assignment context
Ensure sensor and hub belong to the same account/home in app, because cross-account assignment prevents successful registration.
Retest telemetry updates after final placement
After pairing, move the sensor to its installed location and verify stable status updates, so connection quality is proven under real use conditions.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If the hub reconnects then drops every few minutes, check for an IP conflict — two devices sharing the same DHCP address fight each other continuously.
Pair motion sensors with smart lights to create automatic lighting that turns on when you enter a room and off after a few minutes of no motion. This is one of the simplest and most useful smart home automations you can set up.
Hub disconnections that cycle repeatedly are almost always IP conflicts — two devices fighting over the same DHCP lease after a router restart.
