- Weak connection delaying state updates
- Cloud sync lag
- Device toggled physically/externally
Problem Description
The eWeLink app shows your SONOFF device as ON, but the actual device and connected appliance are OFF — or the reverse. The state displayed in the app does not match the physical relay position. This happens when a state change event gets lost between the device and the cloud, when the app cache is stale, or when multiple control sources (eWeLink, Alexa, Home Assistant) send conflicting commands.
Why This Happens in Real Homes
When the eWeLink app's state doesn't match the device after you control it, the state update didn't sync back — the command may have executed, but the confirmation lagged because of a weak connection or cloud delay. A device toggled physically or by another controller can also leave the app showing the old state.
Pull to refresh the app to force a state update, and improve the device's 2.4GHz connection so status reports back promptly. Enabling LAN control speeds up state updates on the local network. Reboot the device to resync if it's stuck, update firmware, and account for anyone toggling it physically or another automation changing it. Re-logging into eWeLink clears a stale session holding the wrong state.
Symptoms
- App shows ON but device is OFF (or vice versa)
- State doesn't match reality
- Sync lag after control
- Wrong state shown
- State updates late
- Toggle doesn't reflect
- Out-of-sync status
- State mismatch after commands
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Weak connection delaying state updates
- Cloud sync lag
- Device toggled physically/externally
- App cache stale
- LAN/cloud state confusion
- Firmware glitch
- Multiple controllers changing state
- Session/account hiccup
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Do not trust a single successful command when diagnosing sync reliability.

Step-by-Step Solution
Check the actual relay state vs. the app display
SONOFF devices have a physical indicator: the LED on the device shows the relay state (typically green = on, off = off, though this varies by model). If eWeLink shows the device as ON but the LED and connected appliance are OFF (or vice versa): the app has a stale state. Pull down in eWeLink to refresh the device list. If the state corrects: it was a temporary sync lag. If it stays wrong: the cloud state is stuck and needs a force refresh.
Toggle the device physically to force a state sync
Press the physical button on the SONOFF device to toggle the relay. The device sends its new state to the cloud, which forces eWeLink to update. This is the fastest way to clear a stuck state. If you are using an in-wall MINIR4 with no external button wired, you can toggle the connected wall switch (if wired in 'edge switch' mode) or power cycle the device to trigger a state report.
Clear the eWeLink app cache
Stale device states sometimes persist in the app's local cache. In eWeLink: Profile > Settings > Clear Cache. This removes locally stored device data and forces the app to re-download all device states from the cloud on next launch. Close and reopen eWeLink after clearing. All device states should now reflect the actual current state of each device. If a device still shows the wrong state after cache clear: the cloud state itself is wrong — proceed to the next step.
Check for dual-control conflicts
If you control the same SONOFF device from multiple sources — eWeLink app, Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant, scenes, schedules — the state can desync when two sources send conflicting commands in quick succession. For example: an eWeLink scene turns a device ON at 6:00 PM, but an Alexa routine turns it OFF at 6:00 PM. The device executes both commands but the app only shows the result of one. Check all automation sources for conflicting schedules. Consolidate automations to one platform if possible.
Re-pair the device if state desync is persistent
If a specific device consistently shows the wrong state in eWeLink despite cache clearing and force refreshing: delete the device from eWeLink and re-pair it. The old cloud state is discarded and a fresh device entry is created. Tap the device > ··· > Delete Device. Then add it again via Quick Pairing. You will need to reconfigure any scenes, automations, and third-party integrations (Alexa/Google) that referenced the old device entry. The new device gets a new device ID, so linked services need to rediscover it.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If pairing fails after multiple attempts, the device may still be registered to a previous account — factory-reset it before trying to add it to a new one.
State synchronization issues should be tested with repeatable command loops.
Pairing failures almost always come down to distance during the initial handshake — manufacturers seriously understate how close you actually need to be.

- Cloud sync lag
- Device toggled physically/externally
- App cache stale
- LAN/cloud state confusion
