Check Filter Packaging

Turn off and unplug the purifier. Remove the bottom or back cover to access the filter. Pull the HEPA filter out completely. Check that all plastic wrap has been removed from the filter. New Levoit filters come wrapped in plastic with a pull tab. If any plastic remains on the filter it flutters in the airflow causing a rattling sound. Also remove the cardboard protective cap from the top of the filter if present.

Reseat the Filter

With the filter removed inspect the filter compartment for any debris small objects or loose plastic pieces. Place the filter back in ensuring the pull tab faces outward and the filter sits flat in its housing. The filter should drop in without forcing. If it feels crooked or does not sit flush the rattle is caused by the filter vibrating against the housing wall. Rotate the filter slightly until it seats flush on all sides.

Clean Pre-Filter

The pre-filter is the outer mesh layer wrapped around the HEPA filter. On some Levoit models it is a separate removable sleeve. Remove it and tap it over a trash can to release trapped dust and debris. Rinse it under water if your model allows it and let it dry completely before reinstalling. A clogged pre-filter restricts airflow causing the fan to work harder and vibrate more at low speeds.

Reduce Surface Vibration

Levoit purifiers at low speed produce small vibrations that hard surfaces like wood desks and tables amplify into audible rattling. Place a small foam pad rubber mat or even a folded cloth under the purifier. This dampens the vibration transfer to the surface. If the rattle completely disappears with the pad the unit itself is fine and the noise is purely resonance from the surface.

Inspect Fan Blades

If the rattle persists after filter and surface checks the fan blades may have dust buildup causing imbalance. With the unit unplugged and filter removed look into the fan area with a flashlight. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean dust from the fan blades. Do not bend or touch the blades with hard objects. Unbalanced fan blades rattle at low RPM but spin smoothly at higher speeds which is why the noise only appears at low settings.
