Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Router scheduled reboot overnight
- ISP maintenance during off-peak hours
- Router power saving mode disabling WiFi
- Camera WiFi signal marginal
- Router firmware auto-updating overnight
- Smart plug or timer cutting power
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Do not put Ring camera on smart plug timer to power cycle. Repeated cycling can corrupt firmware.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Check Router Scheduled Reboot
Log into router admin and look for Auto Reboot or Scheduled Restart. Many routers reboot at 2 or 3 AM by default. Ring cameras sometimes fail to reconnect after. Disable or reschedule.
Disable Router Sleep Mode
Some routers have WiFi Power Saving or Eco Mode that reduces signal when no traffic detected. At night the router may enter low power. Disable WiFi Sleep or Green Mode in settings.
Check Camera Power Source
Verify camera is not on smart plug with schedule or power strip with auto-off. Plug a lamp into same outlet overnight to verify power stays on.
Improve WiFi Signal
Check signal in Ring app under Device Health. If yellow or red move router closer or add extender. Ring cameras need consistent strong signal.
Check ISP Maintenance
Call ISP about scheduled overnight maintenance. Many ISPs do maintenance during off-peak hours causing brief interruptions.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
This usually happens right after a router reboot or ISP change — the device rejoins the network but drops its cloud session silently.
Set Ring to Away mode at night with all motion recording enabled. Camera resumes recording immediately when reconnected.
Most WiFi drop-offs happen right after a router reboot or ISP swap — the device reconnects to the network but silently loses its cloud registration.

- Router power saving mode disabling WiFi
- Camera WiFi signal marginal
- Router firmware auto-updating overnight
