Problem Description

You need to factory reset your Wyze camera to clear all settings and start fresh. This is useful when troubleshooting persistent issues, preparing to sell or give away the camera, or moving it to a new WiFi network. Factory reset erases all settings including WiFi credentials, detection settings, and removes the camera from your Wyze account.

Symptoms

  • Camera stuck in boot loop or frozen
  • Need to clear all settings for new setup
  • Selling or giving camera to someone else
  • Camera wont connect after router change
  • Persistent error codes not fixed by restart
  • Moving camera to different Wyze account

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Firmware corruption requiring clean install
  • WiFi credentials stored but network changed
  • Camera registered to previous owners account
  • Detection zones and settings causing issues
  • Device needs complete refresh after updates
  • Transferring ownership to new user

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Factory reset does NOT erase microSD card contents. If giving away the camera, remove and format the microSD card separately to protect your recorded footage and privacy.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Remove Camera from Wyze App First

Before factory resetting, remove the camera from your Wyze account to ensure clean re-registration. Open the Wyze app, tap on your camera, then tap Settings (gear icon) > Delete Device. Confirm removal. This prevents issues when re-adding the camera later. If you are giving the camera away, this step is mandatory for the new owner to register it.

2

Locate the Setup Button

Find the setup button on your Wyze camera. On Wyze Cam v3 and v4, it is on the bottom of the camera next to the microSD slot. On Cam OG, it is a small button on the back. On Cam Pan models, it is on the bottom. On Cam Outdoor, remove the magnetic base to access it on the bottom. You will need a paperclip for recessed buttons.

3

Perform Factory Reset

With the camera powered on (plugged in and showing any LED), press and hold the setup button for 10-20 seconds. Continue holding until you hear Ready to connect or the status light starts flashing yellow. This indicates the camera has been reset to factory defaults. Release the button. The camera is now in setup mode waiting for fresh configuration.

4

Re-Add Camera to Wyze App

Open the Wyze app and tap the plus icon > Add Device > Cameras > select your model. Follow the on-screen prompts. When asked, scan the QR code displayed on your phone screen with the camera. Enter your WiFi network name and password. The camera will connect and download the latest firmware automatically. This process takes 2-5 minutes.

5

Reconfigure Camera Settings

After setup completes, your camera has default settings. Go into camera Settings to reconfigure: detection sensitivity, detection zone, notification schedule, recording settings, and night vision mode. If you use Cam Plus, verify your subscription is attached. Check that event recording and notifications are enabled for the features you need.

Quick Solutions

Hold setup button during power-on for reset
Use Wyze app to remove camera before reset
Time reset correctly for your camera model
Re-add camera to app after reset completes
Update firmware immediately after reset
Reconfigure all detection and alert settings

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

Camera issues that start suddenly almost always trace back to an upload bandwidth drop — run a speed test before assuming hardware failure.

Pro Tip

Before factory resetting, download any important event clips from the Events tab in the Wyze app. Event recordings stored in the cloud are deleted when you remove the camera from your account. Local microSD recordings remain on the card but settings are lost.

Real-World Insight

Live view problems that start suddenly usually trace back to an upload speed drop — the camera itself is fine, the bandwidth path to the cloud isn't.
