Problem Description

If the hub will not pair with HomeKit, it may be on a guest network or running old firmware. This guide resets pairing, checks WiFi, and re-adds the hub.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

If the hub will not pair with HomeKit, it may be on a guest network or running old firmware. This guide resets pairing, checks WiFi, and re-adds the hub. In day-to-day use, this usually looks like HomeKit code not accepted; Hub appears offline in Home app; Aqara app shows hub online.

Most cases trace back to Hub on guest network; 2.4GHz disabled; Firmware outdated. The fix works best when you go step by step instead of changing multiple settings at once.

A practical order for this issue is: Use Main WiFi -> Update Firmware -> Reset Pairing -> Add in Home App. After each step, test the exact behavior that was failing so you can confirm what actually solved it.

Symptoms

  • HomeKit code is not accepted
  • Hub appears offline in the Home app
  • Aqara app shows the hub online
  • Phone is on WiFi but pairing fails
  • Setup fails on a guest network
  • Firmware update pending on the hub
  • Hub pairs then shows No Response
  • Code scan finds no accessory

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Hub on a guest or isolated network
  • 2.4GHz band disabled or hub on 5GHz
  • Firmware outdated
  • HomeKit pairing already active/consumed
  • Router AP isolation enabled
  • Apple home hub offline
  • Phone and hub on different networks
  • HomeKit not enabled in the Aqara app

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Do not factory reset unless pairing fails after a firmware update.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Connect to Primary WiFi Network

The Aqara Hub M1S must be on your primary home WiFi network, not a guest network. Guest networks typically have client isolation enabled, which prevents the hub from communicating with the Apple Home Hub (HomePod, Apple TV). In the Aqara Home app, connect the M1S to your main 2.4GHz WiFi SSID. The M1S does not support 5GHz.

2

Update Hub Firmware

Open the Aqara Home app, go to the M1S device page, and check for firmware updates under Settings > Firmware Update. HomeKit pairing issues are often caused by outdated firmware that has compatibility bugs with newer iOS versions. Install any available updates and wait for the hub to restart (LED cycles through colors during update).

3

Reset HomeKit Pairing on the Hub

Press and hold the button on top of the M1S hub for 10 seconds until the LED starts flashing rapidly. This resets the HomeKit pairing without removing Aqara device pairings. The hub enters pairing mode and can be added to Apple Home again. You have 3 minutes to scan the HomeKit code before the hub exits pairing mode.

4

Add the Hub in Apple Home App

Open the Apple Home app on your iPhone, tap the plus icon, and select Add Accessory. Scan the HomeKit setup code on the bottom of the M1S hub (or on the included card). Make sure your iPhone is on the same WiFi network as the hub. If the code does not scan, tap I Don't Have a Code and enter it manually.

5

Verify the Hub Appears Online in HomeKit

After pairing, check that the M1S shows as connected in the Apple Home app under Home Settings > Hubs & Bridges. If it shows as Not Responding, restart your Apple Home Hub (unplug HomePod or Apple TV for 10 seconds). Also verify the M1S has a strong WiFi signal in the Aqara app.

Quick Solutions

Move the hub to the main network, not guest
Enable a 2.4GHz SSID and connect the hub to it
Update the hub firmware through the Aqara app
Reset the HomeKit pairing in the Aqara app for a new code
Disable AP/client isolation on the router
Ensure an Apple home hub is online
Put the phone and hub on the same 2.4GHz network
Enable HomeKit in the Aqara app before scanning

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If pairing fails after multiple attempts, the device may still be registered to a previous account — factory-reset it before trying to add it to a new one.

Pro Tip

Keep the hub within strong WiFi range during HomeKit pairing.

Real-World Insight

Pairing failures almost always come down to distance during the initial handshake — manufacturers seriously understate how close you actually need to be.
