Overview

This guide walks you through setting up Tuya and Smart Life connected smart home devices including plugs, bulbs, sensors, and switches. Warning

Use strong Wi-Fi passwords. Review device permissions in app. Some devices may collect usage data.

Installation Steps

1

Download the Smart Life App

Tuya-powered devices are configured through the Smart Life app, available on both iOS and Android. You can also use the Tuya Smart app — both apps share the same platform and can manage the same devices. Create an account using your email address or phone number. Use the same account across all Tuya-based devices in your home even if they are from different brands — they will all appear in one device list.

2

Power On the Device and Enter Pairing Mode

Plug in or power on your Tuya device. Most Tuya devices enter pairing mode automatically when first powered on — indicated by a rapidly blinking status LED. If the LED does not blink rapidly, long press the reset or power button for 5 to 10 seconds until the LED begins blinking fast. A slow blink means the device is in a different pairing mode — continue holding to cycle to fast blink mode, which is required for standard WiFi setup.

3

Add Device in Smart Life App

In the Smart Life app tap the plus icon in the top right corner then tap Add Device. The app will search for nearby devices in pairing mode. Select your device from the list. If it does not appear automatically, tap the device category from the manual list — select Electrical Outlet for plugs, Lighting for bulbs, or the appropriate category for your device type. Choose EZ Mode for the first attempt.

4

Enter Your WiFi Password

When prompted, ensure your phone is connected to your 2.4GHz WiFi network and enter your WiFi password. Tuya devices work exclusively on 2.4GHz — they will not appear or connect if your phone is on a 5GHz network during setup. The app will transmit your WiFi credentials to the device using a brief broadcast. The device LED will stop blinking and turn solid when it has connected successfully.

5

Name the Device and Connect to Alexa or Google Home

Give the device a descriptive name that you can remember and speak clearly — Bedroom Lamp or Kitchen Plug. Assign it to a room within the Smart Life app. To control with Alexa, enable the Smart Life skill in the Alexa app then say Alexa discover devices. For Google Home, link the Smart Life account in Google Home app settings. After linking, all your Tuya devices will be available through your voice assistant.
