Problem Description

The JellyFish Lighting Pro 2 controller fails to establish or maintain a WiFi connection, causing the Cloud App to report the controller as offline and all lights to become unresponsive to remote commands.

Symptoms

  • Controller display shows no WiFi connection icon or a WiFi error symbol
  • JellyFish Cloud App shows controller status as Offline
  • Lights continue running the last active pattern but no longer respond to app commands
  • App cannot discover controller even when phone is on the same network
  • Controller attempts to connect repeatedly but never succeeds

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Controller is attempting to join a 5GHz band — JellyFish controllers only support 2.4GHz
  • WiFi password was changed on the router after initial JellyFish setup
  • Router is too far from the controller for a reliable 2.4GHz signal
  • Band steering on the router is automatically pushing the controller to 5GHz
  • The controller IP lease expired and the router assigned a conflicting address
  • A recent router firmware update changed security settings incompatible with the controller

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Do not attempt to open or modify the controller hardware. All WiFi setup changes should be made through the JellyFish Designer App or the front panel menu only. Changing router DNS or firewall settings without professional guidance can affect other smart home devices on your network.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Check Controller WiFi Status on the Front Panel

The JellyFish Pro 2 controller has a small front panel display. A WiFi icon with a line through it indicates no connection. A solid WiFi icon means connected. Use the Setup menu on the front panel to verify the SSID the controller is trying to reach.

2

Temporarily Connect Phone to Controller Hotspot

With the JellyFish Designer App installed, go to your phone WiFi settings and connect to the JellyFish-XXXX network. Default password: bigfish10. This direct connection lets you access setup menus even when the home network connection is broken.

3

Run WiFi Setup from Designer App

In the Designer App with the phone connected to the controller hotspot, tap Setup > WiFi Setup. Select your 2.4GHz SSID, enter the password, and save. Disconnect from the hotspot and check the Cloud App after 2 minutes.

4

Assign a Static IP (Advanced)

If your router is assigning conflicting IP addresses, log into your router and assign the JellyFish controller a static (reserved) IP address using its MAC address. This prevents future address conflicts.

Quick Solutions

Confirm Your Router Is Broadcasting 2.4GHz
Re-enter WiFi Credentials via the JellyFish Designer App
Reposition or Add a WiFi Extender at 2.4GHz
Power Cycle the Controller and Router

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

This usually happens right after a router reboot or ISP change — the device rejoins the network but drops its cloud session silently.

Pro Tip

JellyFish installers routinely set up a dedicated 2.4GHz extender near the controller during installation. If your lights went offline after changing your WiFi setup, that extender may also need to be reconfigured. Contact your authorized JellyFish dealer for on-site support — most offer service calls specifically for WiFi reconnection.

Real-World Insight

Most WiFi drop-offs happen right after a router reboot or ISP swap — the device reconnects to the network but silently loses its cloud registration.
