Problem Description

The JellyFish Lighting Pro 2 controller fails to establish or maintain a WiFi connection, causing the Cloud App to report the controller as offline and all lights to become unresponsive to remote commands.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

The JellyFish Pro 2 controller connects on 2.4GHz WiFi only — it can't join a 5GHz network — so the number-one reason it won't connect is being pointed at a 5GHz or a combined band-steered network. The controller is often mounted outdoors near the eave, which can also mean weak signal from the router inside.

During setup, connect the controller to a 2.4GHz network with the correct password, splitting the bands or disabling band steering if the router hides the 2.4GHz name. Make sure the controller's location has decent 2.4GHz coverage (a mesh node toward that side of the house helps), and set the router to WPA2 or mixed security rather than WPA3-only. Put the controller in setup mode and retry. A reachable 2.4GHz network is what it needs.

Symptoms

  • Controller won't connect to WiFi
  • Setup fails at WiFi
  • Pro 2 can't join the network
  • No WiFi connection
  • Controller offline in setup
  • Won't pair to WiFi
  • WiFi setup fails
  • Can't onboard the controller

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Connecting to 5GHz (Pro 2 is 2.4GHz only)
  • Weak 2.4GHz signal at the controller
  • Wrong WiFi password
  • Band steering hiding 2.4GHz
  • Router security (WPA3-only)
  • Controller not in setup mode
  • Firmware/setup issue
  • Router blocking the device

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Do not attempt to open or modify the controller hardware. All WiFi setup changes should be made through the JellyFish Designer App or the front panel menu only. Changing router DNS or firewall settings without professional guidance can affect other smart home devices on your network.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Check Controller WiFi Status on the Front Panel

The JellyFish Pro 2 controller has a small front panel display. A WiFi icon with a line through it indicates no connection. A solid WiFi icon means connected. Use the Setup menu on the front panel to verify the SSID the controller is trying to reach.

2

Temporarily Connect Phone to Controller Hotspot

With the JellyFish Designer App installed, go to your phone WiFi settings and connect to the JellyFish-XXXX network. Default password: bigfish10. This direct connection lets you access setup menus even when the home network connection is broken.

3

Run WiFi Setup from Designer App

In the Designer App with the phone connected to the controller hotspot, tap Setup > WiFi Setup. Select your 2.4GHz SSID, enter the password, and save. Disconnect from the hotspot and check the Cloud App after 2 minutes.

4

Assign a Static IP (Advanced)

If your router is assigning conflicting IP addresses, log into your router and assign the JellyFish controller a static (reserved) IP address using its MAC address. This prevents future address conflicts.

Quick Solutions

Connect to a 2.4GHz network (Pro 2 doesn't do 5GHz)
Ensure strong 2.4GHz at the controller location
Enter the correct WiFi password
Split/expose the 2.4GHz band (disable band steering)
Set the router to WPA2/WPA3 mixed
Put the controller in setup/pairing mode
Update via the app / retry setup
Allow the device on the router

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

This usually happens right after a router reboot or ISP change — the device rejoins the network but drops its cloud session silently.

Pro Tip

JellyFish installers routinely set up a dedicated 2.4GHz extender near the controller during installation. If your lights went offline after changing your WiFi setup, that extender may also need to be reconfigured. Contact your authorized JellyFish dealer for on-site support — most offer service calls specifically for WiFi reconnection.

Real-World Insight

Most WiFi drop-offs happen right after a router reboot or ISP swap — the device reconnects to the network but silently loses its cloud registration.

What Usually Goes Wrong
  • Connecting to 5GHz (Pro 2 is 2.4GHz only)
  • Weak 2.4GHz signal at the controller
  • Wrong WiFi password
  • Band steering hiding 2.4GHz
  • Router security (WPA3-only)
