- No Apple home hub (HomePod/Apple TV) for remote/automations
- Lock out of Bluetooth range of the home hub
- Weak CR2 battery affecting the radio
Problem Description
Your Level Lock isn't working reliably with Apple HomeKit - it shows 'No Response' in the Home app, Siri can't control it, or HomeKit automations don't fire. Level locks pair to HomeKit over Bluetooth, and remote/automated control needs an Apple home hub. Problems usually trace to the home hub, Bluetooth range, a weak battery, or the HomeKit pairing rather than the lock itself. This guide covers restoring HomeKit control.
Why This Happens in Real Homes
Low battery and Bluetooth range are the two most common causes of Level Lock HomeKit problems. The CR2 battery provides less power than the AA batteries used by other smart locks, so it runs down faster and Bluetooth signal weakens sooner. Users who place a HomePod mini within 15 feet of the lock report the most reliable experience. The No Response error in HomeKit almost always means the hub cannot reach the lock over Bluetooth — it is a range issue, not a pairing issue.
Symptoms
- Lock shows No Response in Apple Home
- Siri can't lock/unlock the lock
- HomeKit automations for the lock don't run
- Works in the Level app but not Home app
- No Response only when away from home
- Status in Home is stale/wrong
- Lock dropped from Home after an update
- Intermittent HomeKit control
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- No Apple home hub (HomePod/Apple TV) for remote/automations
- Lock out of Bluetooth range of the home hub
- Weak CR2 battery affecting the radio
- Home hub offline or in a degraded state
- HomeKit pairing needs to be re-established
- Lock and hub on different networks / hub issues
- Firmware out of date
- Duplicate/stale accessory entry in Home
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Do not reset the Level Lock unless you have the HomeKit setup code. Without this code, you cannot re-add the lock to HomeKit after a reset. The code is on the card that came in the box or printed on the lock body. If you lost the code, contact Level support before resetting — they can help you recover it in some cases.

Step-by-Step Solution
Check that you have a HomeKit hub
The Level Lock connects to HomeKit via Bluetooth, but remote access and automations require a HomeKit hub — an Apple TV (4th gen or later), HomePod, or HomePod mini that stays powered on at home. If you do not have a hub, the lock only works when your iPhone is within Bluetooth range (about 30 feet). Check the Home app — if it says No Hub Connected, you need to set one up for full features.
Check Bluetooth on your iPhone
The Level Lock communicates with HomeKit exclusively over Bluetooth — it does not use WiFi. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone (Settings > Bluetooth). If the lock was working and stopped, toggle Bluetooth off and on. Also check that the Level Lock appears in the Bluetooth settings list. If it does not appear, the lock may need to be re-paired.
Check the lock battery level
Low battery is the most common cause of Level Lock HomeKit issues. Open the Level app or the Home app and check the battery percentage. The Level Lock uses a CR2 battery that lasts 6-12 months depending on usage. When the battery drops below 20 percent, Bluetooth communication becomes unreliable — the lock may respond slowly or not at all. Replace with a fresh Panasonic or Energizer CR2 battery.
Move your HomeKit hub closer to the lock
Bluetooth range is about 30 feet with clear line of sight, but walls, doors, and metal reduce it significantly. If your Apple TV or HomePod is on a different floor or in a distant room from the lock, it may not maintain a reliable Bluetooth connection. Move the hub closer or add a HomePod mini near the lock. The HomePod mini is the best option because it is small, inexpensive, and acts as both a HomeKit hub and Bluetooth range extender.
Remove and re-add the lock in HomeKit
If the lock shows in the Home app but responds intermittently or shows No Response, remove it and re-add it. In the Home app, long-press the lock, scroll down, tap Remove Accessory. Then open the Level app and go through the HomeKit setup again — the Level app will guide you to scan the HomeKit code and add the lock back to your Home. This clears any corrupted pairing data.
Reset the Level Lock Bluetooth
If re-adding does not work, reset the lock Bluetooth module. Open the Level app, go to lock settings, and select Reset. This clears all Bluetooth pairings and HomeKit registrations from the lock. You will need to set up the lock from scratch in both the Level app and the Home app. Have the HomeKit setup code ready — it is on the card that came with the lock or printed on the lock itself.
Check for HomeKit firmware compatibility
Update the Level Lock firmware through the Level app — go to lock settings > Firmware Update. Also update your iPhone to the latest iOS version and your Apple TV or HomePod to the latest software. HomeKit protocol changes in iOS updates occasionally break compatibility with older lock firmware. After updating everything, restart your HomeKit hub by unplugging it for 10 seconds.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If the keypad rejects valid codes, a lockout timer may be running — five failed entries locks most keypads silently for 5–10 minutes.
The Level Lock is Bluetooth-only — it does not have WiFi. This means it depends entirely on a nearby HomeKit hub for remote access and automations. A HomePod mini placed in the same room or hallway as the lock gives the most reliable experience. If you experience frequent No Response errors, the hub is too far away. Also, the CR2 battery in the Level Lock lasts less time than you might expect — keep a spare battery on hand.
Most smart lock failures people label as hardware issues turn out to be a code wiped during a sync, or a setting reset nobody remembers triggering.

- Lock out of Bluetooth range of the home hub
- Weak CR2 battery affecting the radio
