Problem Description

You are setting up the Teckin smart power strip for WiFi control of individual outlets. Plug in the power strip and prepare for setup in the Smart Life or Tuya app. The Teckin strip has individually controllable outlets and USB ports. It connects to 2.4GHz WiFi only. This guide covers app pairing, outlet naming, and scheduling.

Symptoms

  • Device shows as offline in the app
  • Device does not respond to commands
  • App cannot connect to device
  • Features not working as expected
  • Device disconnects frequently
  • Automations fail to trigger
  • Voice commands not recognized

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • WiFi connection unstable or device too far from router
  • Device firmware or app needs updating
  • Device not properly set up during initial pairing
  • Power supply issue or loose connection
  • Account not linked correctly
  • Too many devices causing network congestion
  • Interference from other wireless devices

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Never exceed the smart plug maximum wattage rating listed on the device or packaging. Do not use smart plugs with space heaters, high-wattage appliances, or devices that must not be interrupted like medical equipment. Smart plugs are not designed for outdoor use unless specifically rated for it.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Plug in and prepare for setup

Plug the Teckin smart power strip into a wall outlet. The strip typically has 4 individually controllable AC outlets and 4 USB ports. Each AC outlet can be switched independently from the app. The USB ports are usually grouped as one switch. The strip is rated for 15A (1875W) total across all outlets — do not exceed this with combined loads.

2

Connect through the Smart Life app

Download the Smart Life app (or Teckin app — both work). Tap + > Add Device > Power Strip. Press and hold the power button on the strip until the LED blinks rapidly (pairing mode). Enter your 2.4GHz WiFi credentials. The strip connects within 30-60 seconds. After connecting, each outlet appears as a separate toggle in the app. Name each one for easy identification.

3

Set up individual outlet schedules

Each outlet can have its own schedule. In the app, tap the outlet > Schedule > + Add. Set on/off times for each outlet independently. Example: outlet 1 (desk lamp) on at 8AM off at 10PM, outlet 2 (monitor) on at 9AM off at 6PM, outlet 3 (charger) on at 11PM off at 7AM. The USB outlets typically share one schedule. Schedules run via the cloud — WiFi must be active.

4

Connect to Alexa or Google Home

In the Alexa or Google Home app, link the Smart Life service. Each outlet appears as a separate device. Rename them clearly: 'Office Monitor,' 'Desk Lamp,' 'Phone Charger.' Voice commands: 'Alexa, turn off the Desk Lamp.' Group the strip outlets into an Alexa or Google Home room for easier management. You can also create routines that control multiple outlets simultaneously.

5

Fix individual outlets not responding

If one outlet does not toggle: try the physical button on the strip (some strips have individual outlet buttons). If the button works but the app does not: the app has lost sync. Power cycle the strip. If neither the button nor the app toggles the outlet: the relay for that outlet may be stuck. Unplug the strip for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and try again. A permanently stuck relay means the strip needs replacement.

Quick Solutions

Connect to 2.4GHz WiFi not 5GHz
Reset plug by holding button 5-10 seconds
Re-add device in manufacturer app
Check plug wattage rating vs appliance draw
Update plug firmware through the app
Move plug closer to WiFi router or add extender

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If drain continues after replacing batteries, check the event history — a stuck-open sensor or rapid polling loop burns through batteries in days.

Pro Tip

Use smart plugs with energy monitoring to track exactly how much electricity each appliance uses. Set up Away Mode schedules that randomly toggle lamps on and off to make your home look occupied when you are traveling.

Real-World Insight

This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
