- Smart Life app timezone not updated
- Plug firmware using cached time offset
- Phone time zone affects schedule sync
Problem Description
Your Teckin smart plug schedules started running an hour early or late after daylight saving time changed. Lights turn on at 6pm instead of 7pm, or devices activate at the wrong time. The schedule shows the correct time in the app but executes at the wrong actual time.
Symptoms
- Schedules run one hour off after DST change
- App shows correct time but wrong execution
- Morning schedules trigger too early or late
- All plug schedules affected equally
- Time zone appears correct in app
- Issue started exactly when clocks changed
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Smart Life app timezone not updated
- Plug firmware using cached time offset
- Phone time zone affects schedule sync
- Cloud server timezone mismatch
- Schedule set before DST using old offset
- App needs refresh to pull new time
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Do not manually adjust schedule times by one hour as a workaround. When DST ends, you will have to readjust again. Fix the underlying timezone sync issue instead.
Step-by-Step Solution
Force App Time Sync
Open the Smart Life app and go to Profile, then Settings. Find Time Zone or Location settings. Even if it shows the correct zone, tap it and reselect your timezone. This forces the app to resync time with the cloud servers using the current DST offset.
Power Cycle All Affected Plugs
Unplug each Teckin smart plug from the wall for 30 seconds, then plug back in. When the plug reconnects to WiFi and the cloud, it pulls fresh time data. This clears any cached time offset from before the DST change.
Delete and Recreate Schedules
Schedules created before DST may store the old time offset. In the Smart Life app, delete each schedule on affected plugs. Wait a minute, then recreate them with the same times. New schedules use the current time offset.
Verify Phone Time Settings
Your phone time affects how schedules sync. Go to your phone Settings and check that automatic time zone is enabled. If set manually to the wrong zone, the app may sync schedules incorrectly. Correct your phone time and restart the Smart Life app.
Update and Relog the App
Check your app store for Smart Life updates. Install any available update. Then log out of your account in the app and log back in. This refreshes your account data and forces a fresh pull of all schedules with correct timing.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
Schedules that skip randomly are usually a daylight-saving holdover — delete and recreate the schedule to clear the corrupted entry.
If you have sunrise/sunset based schedules, these should automatically adjust and not be affected by DST changes since they calculate based on actual sun position.
Thermostat issues that keep returning are often caused by stale backup-battery memory holding old settings across power cycles without the user realising.
