Problem Description

If readings stop updating, the sensor may be out of range or the battery is low. This guide restores data and connectivity.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

If readings stop updating, the sensor may be out of range or the battery is low. This guide restores data and connectivity. In day-to-day use, this usually looks like Temperature stuck; Humidity not changing; Sensor shows offline.

Most cases trace back to Battery depleted; Sensor too far from hub; Zigbee interference. The fix works best when you go step by step instead of changing multiple settings at once.

A practical order for this issue is: Replace Battery -> Improve Range -> Re-Pair -> Restart Hub. After each step, test the exact behavior that was failing so you can confirm what actually solved it.

Symptoms

  • Temperature reading is stuck
  • Humidity is not changing
  • Sensor shows offline
  • Low-battery icon on the sensor
  • Hub is online but the sensor is not updating
  • Sensor recently moved rooms
  • Readings update late or in jumps
  • Other sensors update but this one does not

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Sensor battery depleted (CR2032)
  • Sensor too far from the hub (weak Zigbee)
  • Zigbee interference from overlapping WiFi
  • Sensor firmware outdated
  • Sensor dropped its pairing and needs re-adding
  • Nearby metal surfaces weakening the signal
  • No Zigbee repeater between the sensor and hub
  • Sensor in an extreme spot outside its range

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Place sensors in a stable location to avoid rapid swings.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Replace the CR2032 Battery

The Aqara temperature and humidity sensor uses a CR2032 coin cell battery. Pry open the back cover using the notch on the edge of the sensor. Remove the old battery and insert a fresh CR2032 with the positive (+) side facing up. After inserting the battery, wait 30-60 seconds for the sensor to reconnect to the hub and send updated readings to the app.

2

Improve Zigbee Signal Range

If the sensor is far from the Aqara hub (more than 25-30 feet or through thick walls), the signal may be too weak to transmit readings reliably. Move the hub closer to the sensor, or add a Zigbee repeater device (any mains-powered Aqara device like a smart plug) between the hub and sensor to extend the mesh network. Battery-powered sensors do not repeat signals.

3

Remove and Re-pair the Sensor

In the Aqara Home app, go to the temperature sensor device page and delete it. Then press the reset button on the back of the sensor (small button, hold for 5 seconds until the LED flashes). Add the sensor again through the app by tapping Add Accessory. Re-pairing refreshes the Zigbee encryption key and clears any communication issues.

4

Power Cycle the Aqara Hub

Unplug the Aqara hub from power for 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait for the hub LED to turn solid green (indicating it is online and the Zigbee network is rebuilt). All paired sensors should reconnect within 2-3 minutes. Check the app to verify the temperature and humidity readings have updated with fresh data.

5

Check Reporting Interval

The Aqara temperature/humidity sensor reports data when the temperature changes by 0.5°C or humidity changes by 6%, or at a minimum interval of about 1 hour if conditions are stable. If you expect more frequent updates, the sensor is working as designed — it conserves battery by only reporting meaningful changes. Place the sensor in a location with some temperature variation to see more frequent updates.

Quick Solutions

Replace the CR2032 battery
Move the sensor closer to the hub or add a repeater
Shift the hub Zigbee channel off your WiFi channel
Update the sensor and hub firmware
Re-pair the sensor to the hub
Mount the sensor off bare metal
Add an Aqara plug or wired device as a Zigbee repeater
Place the sensor within its rated temperature range

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

Schedules that skip randomly are usually a daylight-saving holdover — delete and recreate the schedule to clear the corrupted entry.

Pro Tip

Keep sensors away from large metal appliances that block Zigbee signals.

Real-World Insight

Thermostat issues that keep returning are often caused by stale backup-battery memory holding old settings across power cycles without the user realising.

What Usually Goes Wrong
  • Sensor battery depleted (CR2032)
  • Sensor too far from the hub (weak Zigbee)
  • Zigbee interference from overlapping WiFi
  • Sensor firmware outdated
  • Sensor dropped its pairing and needs re-adding
