- Ring camera is offline or has weak signal
- Google Home app needs to be updated
- Ring requires subscription for some features
Don't skip this step — it breaks everything if you do
Ring doorbell press notifications are NOT available through Google Home - you will still need the Ring app or Alexa for those alerts. Google Home only supports live viewing.
Installation Steps
Link Ring to Google Home
Open the Google Home app on your phone. Tap the plus icon in the top left corner and select Set up device. Tap Works with Google. Search for Ring in the search bar and select it. You will be redirected to Ring login page - enter your Ring account email and password.
Authorize the Connection
After logging in, you will see a permissions screen asking to allow Google to access your Ring devices. Tap Authorize. Google Home will discover all Ring cameras and doorbells linked to your account. This takes 15-30 seconds.
Assign Devices to Rooms
For each Ring camera or doorbell, Google Home will ask you to assign it to a room. Tap on each device and select the appropriate room. Give each device a clear, simple name that is easy to say. Avoid names that sound similar to each other.
View on Nest Hub or Chromecast
To view your Ring camera feed on a Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max, or Chromecast-enabled TV, say Hey Google show me the camera name. The live feed will appear within 3-5 seconds. Ring streams at 1080p on compatible displays. To stop viewing, say Hey Google stop.
Set Up Additional Features
You can create routines in Google Home that include your Ring cameras. Go to Routines and tap the plus icon. For the action, select Show camera and choose your Ring device. Note that Google Home does not support doorbell ring announcements from Ring - you need the Ring app or Alexa for those.
