Problem Description

You are setting up the Wyze Video Doorbell Pro (wired model). Check your wiring before starting — the Doorbell Pro requires existing doorbell wiring with a 16-24V AC transformer (30VA minimum). Disconnect your old doorbell and connect the two wires from your wall to the terminals on the back of the Wyze Doorbell Pro. This guide covers wiring, mounting, and Wyze app pairing.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

The wired Doorbell Pro's setup hinges on power: it needs an existing transformer putting out 16-24V AC at 10VA minimum, and many older mechanical-chime transformers fall short, leaving the doorbell dead or unstable. Fitting the included chime controller inside the chime box is what keeps your indoor chime ringing.

Cut power at the breaker to wire it, mount the bracket level, and secure both wires. Then pair on 2.4GHz WiFi — and since it sits at the front door at the edge of your coverage, confirm the signal reaches there before you finish, or you'll fight drops later.

Symptoms

  • Unsure about doorbell wiring for setup
  • Transformer voltage question
  • Chime controller install
  • Doorbell will not power at setup
  • Setup will not connect to WiFi
  • No video after install
  • Bracket alignment
  • Two-way audio or chime not working

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Transformer below 16-24V AC / 10VA
  • Chime controller not installed
  • Loose or reversed wires
  • Phone on 5GHz during pairing
  • Weak 2.4GHz WiFi at the door
  • Power off at the breaker during test
  • Wires not seated at the terminals
  • Existing chime incompatible

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Hardwired installation involves working with electrical wiring. Turn off the breaker before touching any wires. If you are not comfortable with basic wiring hire a licensed electrician. Some older homes may need a transformer upgrade from 10V to the 16-24V required by modern video doorbells.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Check your wiring before starting

The Wyze Video Doorbell Pro requires existing doorbell wiring with a transformer outputting 16-24V AC at 10VA minimum. If you have no existing wiring, you need a plug-in transformer and wire run to the door location. Check your current transformer — older homes often have 10V transformers that are too weak. Upgrade to a 16V 30VA transformer if needed. Turn off the breaker for the doorbell circuit before starting.

2

Remove the old doorbell and connect wires

Remove the old doorbell by unscrewing it from the wall. Two wires are connected to the back — note that the Wyze Pro does not care which wire goes to which terminal (they are interchangeable). Connect both wires to the two terminals on the back of the Wyze Doorbell Pro. Use the included wire extensions if the existing wires are too short. Mount the doorbell to the wall using the included mounting bracket and screws. Adjust the angle if you need to point the camera toward the approach path.

3

Install the chime controller

Open your existing doorbell chime box (usually located inside the house, near the front door or in a hallway). Connect the included chime controller: disconnect one wire from the chime terminal, connect it to the chime controller input, and run a short wire from the controller output back to the chime. The chime controller regulates voltage to the doorbell. Without it, the Pro may not get enough power. If you do not have an existing chime or want to skip it, connect the doorbell wires directly to the Wyze Pro.

4

Power on and set up in the Wyze app

Turn the breaker back on. The Wyze Doorbell Pro status LED lights up yellow (booting). Wait 1-2 minutes for it to fully power up. Open the Wyze app, tap +, select Video Doorbell Pro. The app connects via Bluetooth. Scan the QR code on the back of the doorbell (or on the setup card). Enter your 2.4GHz WiFi credentials. The doorbell connects to WiFi and the status LED turns solid blue. The app shows a live preview.

Configure detection and notifications

In the Wyze app, go to the Doorbell Pro settings. Enable Person Detection and Package Detection (requires Cam Plus subscription). Set the Detection Zone to focus on the porch and walkway — exclude the street to reduce false notifications. Adjust motion sensitivity: start at medium and increase if events are being missed. Enable the doorbell button notification so you get an alert when someone presses the button. If you want two-way audio, make sure the microphone is enabled in the camera settings.

Quick Solutions

Confirm the transformer is 16-24V AC at 10VA or more
Install the chime controller in the chime box
Secure both wires correctly at the terminals
Pair with the phone on 2.4GHz WiFi
Confirm a strong 2.4GHz signal at the door
Restore power after wiring and test
Reseat wires firmly
Verify chime compatibility

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

Camera issues that start suddenly almost always trace back to an upload bandwidth drop — run a speed test before assuming hardware failure.

Pro Tip

Set up motion scheduling or snooze alerts during times when regular activity is expected like when kids come home from school. Use pre-recorded quick replies so the doorbell can respond to visitors automatically when you cannot answer.

Real-World Insight

This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
