- Home WiFi network is down
- Internet service provider outage
- Router changed or WiFi password updated
Problem Description
Your SimpliSafe app shows the system as Offline and you cannot arm or disarm remotely, view cameras, or receive notifications. The offline status means the base station has lost connection to SimpliSafe servers. This can happen due to WiFi issues, internet outages, cellular backup failure, or base station hardware problems. While the system may still function locally via the keypad you lose all remote access and cloud features including professional monitoring alerts.
Symptoms
- App shows system offline cannot connect
- Cannot arm or disarm the system from the app
- No notifications received on phone
- Keypad works but app shows disconnected
- System went offline after router restart or power outage
- Cellular backup not activating when WiFi fails
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Home WiFi network is down
- Internet service provider outage
- Router changed or WiFi password updated
- Base station too far from WiFi router
- Cellular backup subscription not active
- Cellular signal too weak in base station location
- Base station firmware corrupted
- Base station power adapter or battery failure
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
While the system is offline you lose professional monitoring, remote arming and disarming, camera access, and notifications. The system can still arm and disarm locally via the keypad and sensors will still trigger the local siren. But dispatch will not be notified and you will not receive alerts on your phone until connectivity is restored.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Verify Home Internet is Working
Before troubleshooting SimpliSafe check if your home internet is functioning. On a phone or computer connected to your home WiFi try loading a website. If the internet is down the issue is with your router or ISP not SimpliSafe. Contact your internet provider or restart your router. Once internet is restored the base station should reconnect automatically.
Power Cycle Router and Base Station
Unplug your WiFi router from power. Unplug the SimpliSafe base station from power. Wait 60 seconds. Plug the router back in first and wait for it to fully restart with all lights stable. Then plug the base station back in. The base station will announce Starting Up and attempt to reconnect. Wait 3 to 5 minutes and check the app for online status.
Reconnect to WiFi After Changes
If you changed your WiFi password or got a new router the base station needs updated credentials. Open the SimpliSafe app and go to Settings then Base Station then WiFi Network. The app will connect to the base station via Bluetooth and allow you to select your WiFi network and enter the new password. Ensure you are near the base station during this process.
Check Cellular Backup
If WiFi is working but the system still shows offline the cellular backup may have also failed. Cellular backup requires an active monitoring subscription with SimpliSafe. Check your account status at simplisafe.com. If you have monitoring verify cellular signal by moving the base station near a window or to a higher floor. Poor cellular coverage prevents backup activation.
Factory Reset if Necessary
If power cycling and WiFi reconnection do not resolve the offline status a factory reset may be needed. Locate the small reset button on the bottom of the base station. Press and hold it with a paperclip for 15 to 20 seconds. The base station will reset and restart. After reset you will need to reconnect to WiFi and re-pair all sensors. Only do this as a last resort.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
This usually happens right after a router reboot or ISP change — the device rejoins the network but drops its cloud session silently.
The SimpliSafe base station has a light indicator that shows connection status. Solid blue means armed with good connection. A blinking white light means the system is updating firmware so do not unplug it. A solid red light indicates a connection or hardware error requiring troubleshooting.
Most WiFi drop-offs happen right after a router reboot or ISP swap — the device reconnects to the network but silently loses its cloud registration.

Before you go — try one of these (they fix most cases).
