- MicroSD card not formatted in FAT32 by the camera
- Card capacity larger than 256GB which camera cannot handle
- Card has failed from continuous recording wear
Problem Description
Your Wyze Cam V3 is not recording to the microSD card or the playback feature says no microSD installed even though a card is physically inserted. You may see events detected in the Events tab but tapping Playback shows no timeline or an error message. Without local recording you only have 12-second cloud clips and miss continuous footage between events. This is a very common Wyze issue caused by card compatibility formatting or firmware bugs.
Symptoms
- Playback says no microSD installed but card is in camera
- Events tab shows detections but no continuous recording timeline
- MicroSD card was recording but suddenly stopped
- Wyze app shows microSD card error message
- Recording settings show card but capacity reads as zero
- Playback timeline has large gaps or only shows green segments
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- MicroSD card not formatted in FAT32 by the camera
- Card capacity larger than 256GB which camera cannot handle
- Card has failed from continuous recording wear
- Card not fully seated in the slot causing intermittent detection
- Firmware bug preventing card recognition after update
- Recording setting changed from continuous to events only
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Formatting the microSD card erases all recordings permanently. If you need to save footage from the card remove it and copy files to a computer before formatting. Wyze does not provide a way to recover formatted recordings.

Step-by-Step Solution
Format Card Through Wyze App
Open the Wyze app tap the camera then Settings then Advanced Settings then Local Storage. If the card is detected you will see a Format button. Tap Format and confirm. The camera formats the card to the correct file system and creates the recording directory structure. This fixes most card recognition and recording issues. All existing recordings on the card will be erased.

$69.99Check Card Compatibility
Wyze cameras support microSD cards from 8GB to 256GB. Cards must be Class 10 U1 or higher speed rating. Cards larger than 256GB are not supported and will show as unrecognized. Recommended brands are Samsung EVO Select SanDisk Ultra and SanDisk High Endurance. Avoid generic unbranded cards as they often have incorrect speed ratings that cause recording failures.
Reseat the MicroSD Card
Power off the camera by unplugging it. Remove the microSD card from the slot on the bottom of the camera. Inspect the card contacts for any visible damage. Reinsert the card firmly until you feel it click into place. Plug the camera back in and wait 60 seconds. Check Local Storage in the app to see if the card is now detected with correct capacity showing.
Verify Recording Settings
In Advanced Settings check that Record to MicroSD Card is enabled. Set it to Continuous Recording for 24/7 footage or Events Only for motion-triggered clips. If set to Events Only you will see gaps between events on the playback timeline which is normal behavior not a malfunction. Continuous recording fills the card then overwrites the oldest footage automatically.
Update Firmware and Restart
Go to camera settings then Device Info then check for firmware updates. Install any available update. Some Wyze firmware versions have known bugs with microSD card detection that are fixed in subsequent releases. After updating unplug the camera for 10 seconds and replug to perform a clean restart. Check Local Storage again to confirm the card is recognized.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If this comes back after following these steps, check whether a recent app or firmware update reset a default setting — the fix works, but the setting gets reverted silently.
Use a high-endurance microSD card designed for continuous video recording such as SanDisk High Endurance or Samsung PRO Endurance. Standard cards wear out within 6 to 12 months under 24/7 recording workload.
This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.

Before you go — try one of these (they fix most cases).
