- Sleep Sensing feature not enabled in Google Home app device settings
- Nest Hub placed more than 1 metre from bed reducing radar detection
- Google Fit data sharing permissions not granted to Nest Hub
Problem Description
Your Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen is not recording sleep data in the Google Fit or Google Home app. The device uses a Soli radar sensor for contactless sleep tracking and the feature must be set up in the Google Home app with the correct placement and account permissions. Sleep sensing failures are caused by the feature not being enabled, the radar being unable to detect movement at the current placement distance, or the Google account not having Fit data sharing enabled.
Symptoms
- Google Fit app shows no sleep data despite sleeping next to Nest Hub
- Sleep Sensing feature shows as off in Google Home app
- Nest Hub shows Sleep Sensing active but no report is in Fit
- Sleep data appears for some nights but is missing for others
- Report shows only a partial night when full night was slept
- Sleep tracking worked before then stopped after Hub update
Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Sleep Sensing feature not enabled in Google Home app device settings
- Nest Hub placed more than 1 metre from bed reducing radar detection
- Google Fit data sharing permissions not granted to Nest Hub
- Hub placed on wrong side of bed where radar cannot detect sleeper
- Google account signed into hub different from Fit account
- Nest Hub firmware update reset Sleep Sensing configuration
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
Do not share the Sleep Sensing data access with household members unless they consent. The Soli radar detects movement and breathing patterns which is personal health data and should be treated with the same privacy as medical information.

Step-by-Step Solution
Enable Sleep Sensing in Google Home
Open the Google Home app and select your Nest Hub 2nd Gen device. Tap Settings then Sleep Sensing. If Sleep Sensing shows as disabled toggle it on. You may be prompted to grant body presence data access and agree to the Sleep Sensing terms. Complete the setup flow including selecting the Google account whose sleep will be tracked. Without this initial setup the Soli radar records no data even though the device is physically capable.
Optimise Nest Hub Placement
The Soli radar in the Nest Hub 2nd Gen tracks breathing and movement from up to 1 metre away. Place the Hub on a nightstand 20 to 60 centimetres from the edge of the bed at approximately mattress height. The front of the Hub should face the part of the bed where the tracked person sleeps. If the Hub is too far away or facing the foot of the bed the radar signal is too weak to reliably detect breathing patterns.
Link Google Fit to Nest Hub
In the Google Home app go to the Nest Hub settings then Sleep Sensing then Linked Apps. Confirm Google Fit is linked. If it is not linked tap Link and sign into your Google account. The sleep data is written to Google Fit and only visible in the Fit app or Fit website after this linking. Without Fit linking the Hub records sleep locally but you cannot view any historical data or trends.
Verify Account Consistency
The Google account signed into the Nest Hub must be the same account used in the Google Home app and Google Fit. Go to Nest Hub settings then Linked Account and confirm the displayed email matches your Google Fit and Home app account. If different accounts are used the sleep data is written to one account but you are viewing another. Sign the Hub into the correct account in the Google Home app.
Check Sleep Report Directly in Google Home
Rather than opening Google Fit check for sleep data directly in the Google Home app. Tap the Nest Hub 2nd Gen device then Sleep. This shows raw sleep reports from the Hub. If data appears here but not in Fit the issue is the Fit integration not the sleep tracking itself. Re-link Google Fit from the Sleep Sensing settings to restore the data transfer between the Hub sleep engine and the Fit platform.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
If the hub reconnects then drops every few minutes, check for an IP conflict — two devices sharing the same DHCP address fight each other continuously.
Set a scheduled wake time in Nest Hub Sleep Sensing settings and enable Smart Alarm. The Hub will wake you at the optimal light-sleep phase within 30 minutes of your alarm, which reduces morning grogginess.
Hub disconnections that cycle repeatedly are almost always IP conflicts — two devices fighting over the same DHCP lease after a router restart.
- Sleep Sensing feature not enabled in Google Home app
- Nest Hub placed more than 1 metre from bed
- Google Fit data sharing permissions not granted to Nest
- Hub placed on wrong side of bed where radar
- Google account signed into hub different from Fit account
