Problem Description

After performing a factory reset on your Arlo SmartHub it will not reconnect to the Arlo app or complete the re-setup process. The hub shows online in router devices but the Arlo app cannot find it during setup or shows it as unregistered. After a factory reset the SmartHub must be re-added to your Arlo account through the full setup wizard and all cameras must be re-paired with the hub.

Symptoms

  • Arlo app cannot find SmartHub after factory reset
  • Hub shows connected to router but Arlo app shows it as offline
  • Setup wizard times out without finding the SmartHub
  • SmartHub LED shows internet connection but Arlo account shows no hub
  • Re-adding hub in app fails at account registration step
  • Cameras that were on the hub show offline after hub was reset

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • SmartHub not fully re-registered with Arlo cloud after reset
  • Hub still associated with old Arlo account from previous owner
  • Ethernet cable not connected during re-setup causing discovery failure
  • Arlo app signed into wrong account for hub re-registration
  • Factory reset completed but hub setup wizard not run in app
  • Hub firmware needs update before re-registration can succeed

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Do not factory reset the SmartHub as a first step to fix connectivity issues. A hub factory reset removes all camera pairings and requires complete system re-setup which takes significant time.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Connect Hub via Ethernet for Setup

During re-setup the Arlo SmartHub must be connected to your router via an Ethernet cable. The hub discovers and registers with Arlo cloud servers over the wired connection before WiFi is configured. Connect the Ethernet cable from the hub LAN port to a router LAN port. Confirm the hub LED shows a solid light indicating wired connection before opening the Arlo app to begin the Add Device wizard.

2

Run Add Device Wizard in Arlo App

After a factory reset the SmartHub is no longer associated with your account. Open the Arlo app, go to Settings then My Devices then Add Device. Select SmartHub from the list. The app will scan for new hubs on the network. Ensure you are on the same WiFi network as the hub is connected to via Ethernet. Follow all wizard steps including creating a hub location name and waiting for the firmware update to complete.

3

Allow Firmware Update to Complete

During re-setup the SmartHub may download a firmware update before completing registration. The LED will blink during the update which can take 5 to 10 minutes. Do not unplug the hub or close the Arlo app during this process. A firmware update interrupted mid-download can put the hub in a boot loop requiring another factory reset. Stay on the setup screen until the app confirms successful hub registration.

4

Verify Correct Arlo Account

If the hub was previously set up by someone else it may still be registered to their Arlo account. In this case factory reset alone does not free the hub. Contact Arlo support at arlo.com/support with the hub serial number found on the bottom label and request an account deregistration. Once deregistered from the previous account you can add the hub to your account through the standard Add Device wizard.

5

Re-Pair All Cameras After Hub Setup

After the SmartHub is successfully registered go to Add Device in the Arlo app and re-add each camera to the hub. Cameras that were previously paired with the hub must be re-paired after a hub factory reset as all device associations are cleared. Place each camera near the hub during pairing. After all cameras are added verify they show online in the Arlo app and test motion detection on each camera to confirm full system operation.

Quick Solutions

Add SmartHub to Arlo account using Add Device wizard in app
Ensure Ethernet cable connects hub to router during setup
Sign into the correct Arlo account that originally owned the hub
Contact Arlo support if hub was purchased used to remove old account
Allow hub to download firmware update during re-setup process
Re-pair all cameras with the hub after hub registration completes

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If the hub reconnects then drops every few minutes, check for an IP conflict — two devices sharing the same DHCP address fight each other continuously.

Pro Tip

Take note of your Arlo SmartHub serial number before performing a factory reset. You will need it if Arlo support must remove an old account association.

Real-World Insight

Hub disconnections that cycle repeatedly are almost always IP conflicts — two devices fighting over the same DHCP lease after a router restart.

  • Hub still associated with old Arlo account from previous
  • Ethernet cable not connected during re-setup causing discovery failure
