Give the panel real direct sun

The solar panel needs several hours of direct sunlight a day. Angle it toward the sun and away from shade, eaves, and tree cover. A panel in partial shade never fully charges the battery, which is the top reason for short runtime.

On the panel or controller there is an on/off (and often a mode) button. Make sure it is switched on. On a brand-new unit, open the battery compartment and remove the plastic pull-tab that isolates the battery for shipping.

Keep the dusk sensor in the dark

Charge fully before first use

Let the lights charge for 2 to 3 sunny days before judging runtime. A partially charged battery gives a short first night that people mistake for a fault.

Reseat the connectors
