Problem Description

All JellyFish lighting zones display the same color or pattern regardless of the individual zone settings configured in the app, making it impossible to run different patterns on different sides of the home simultaneously.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

JellyFish showing all zones the same color means the lights aren't actually separated into distinct zones — either the zones were never defined so the whole run is treated as one, or a single global pattern is being applied to everything. Independent colors require the physical track to be mapped into separate zones in the Designer App.

In the Designer App, define separate zones by mapping distinct LED ranges to each, then apply per-zone patterns and colors rather than a whole-house pattern, and sync the design to the controller. If the zones exist but everything still shows one color, you're likely applying a global effect — switch to per-zone control. Once the track is mapped into separate zones and each is patterned individually, they display independent colors.

Symptoms

  • All zones show the same color
  • Zones not independently colored
  • Can't set different colors per zone
  • Whole run one color
  • Zone colors not separate
  • Global color only
  • Zones behave as one
  • No per-zone control

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Zones not properly defined/separated in the design
  • All LEDs mapped to a single zone
  • A global pattern applied to everything
  • Zone boundaries not set
  • Controller not synced with zone design
  • Using a whole-house pattern
  • Designer App zones incomplete
  • Config not applied

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Re-running zone setup in the Designer App will clear any existing zone-specific schedules associated with deleted zones. Document all existing schedule times and patterns before reconfiguring zone assignments.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

All Zones vs. Individual Zone Control

The JellyFish Cloud App has both an All Zones control (affects everything at once) and individual zone controls (affects one zone at a time). Make sure you are tapping the individual zone tile, not the All Zones master control at the top of the screen.

2

Zone Independence Requires Separate Ports

Physical zone separation requires each zone to be wired to a different output port on the controller. A controller with one port can only run one zone. If your installation has all lights on one port, independent zone control is not possible without rewiring — contact your dealer.

3

Use Zone Names to Avoid Confusion

Name your zones clearly (Front Eave, Left Side, Back Porch) so it is obvious which tile in the app controls which section. Unnamed or numerically named zones make it easy to accidentally use the All Zones control instead of a specific zone.

Quick Solutions

Define separate zones in the Designer App
Map LED ranges to distinct zones
Apply per-zone patterns/colors, not a global one
Set correct zone boundaries
Sync the zone design to the controller
Choose per-zone control instead of whole-house
Complete the zone configuration
Re-apply and verify the zones

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If flickering only happens on dimming, the issue is almost always the dimmer's minimum-load setting, not the bulb — it's drawing less current than the dimmer expects.

Pro Tip

The All Zones control in the Cloud App is at the top of the zones screen above the individual zone tiles. Always confirm you are tapping a specific zone tile rather than the All Zones master control when you want independent zone control.

Real-World Insight

This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.

What Usually Goes Wrong
  • Zones not properly defined/separated in the design
  • All LEDs mapped to a single zone
  • A global pattern applied to everything
  • Zone boundaries not set
  • Controller not synced with zone design
