Overview

Kasa Smart Kasa Smart Bulb KL110 setup takes under 15 minutes for most users — if you're stuck, the steps below target the specific points where installs stall.

This guide covers the installation and app setup of the TP-Link Kasa Smart Bulb KL110, a dimmable white LED that replaces a standard A19 bulb. The KL110 requires no hub, connects directly to your WiFi, and is controlled through the Kasa Smart app with full Alexa and Google Home support.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

The KL110 is a dimmable white smart bulb that screws into a standard socket and connects to 2.4GHz WiFi — the two setup essentials are getting it into pairing mode (it blinks when ready, usually after a power cycle) and joining a 2.4GHz network, since it won't use 5GHz. Crucially, it dims through the app, so it belongs on a normal switch, not a wall dimmer.

Screw in the bulb, turn the wall switch on, and if it isn't blinking, power-cycle it a few times to enter pairing mode, then add it in the Kasa app on 2.4GHz with your phone nearby. Leave the wall switch on so the app keeps control, install any firmware, and dim it in the app or by voice. Putting it on a dimmer switch is the main thing to avoid.

What's Included

  • Installing the KL110 dimmable bulb
  • Won't connect to WiFi
  • App can't find the bulb
  • Bulb not blinking for setup
  • Won't pair
  • Offline after setup
  • Dimming questions
  • On a dimmer switch issue

Got your materials ready? Here's what to check first.

Before You Start

  • Connecting to 5GHz instead of 2.4GHz
  • Bulb not in pairing mode (not blinking)
  • Installed on a wall dimmer
  • Wall switch cutting power
  • Weak 2.4GHz at the fixture
  • Wrong WiFi password
  • Firmware update pending
  • Phone too far during setup

Don't skip this step — it breaks everything if you do

Warning

Requires neutral wire in fixture for proper operation. Some older dimmer switches may not be compatible with smart bulbs.

Installation Steps

1

Replace Your Existing Bulb with the KL110

Make sure the lamp or fixture is turned off at the wall switch. Screw in the KL110 into a standard E26 medium base socket. The KL110 is designed for use with a standard on-off wall switch — do not install it in a fixture controlled by a dimmer switch, as dimmers interfere with the bulb's internal power supply and cause flickering, random resets, and premature failure.

2

Turn On the Wall Switch and Enter Pairing Mode

Turn the wall switch on. The KL110 will blink slowly to indicate it is in setup mode. If the bulb does not blink, it may already be paired to another account. Perform a factory reset by toggling the wall switch off and on 5 times in quick succession — off 1 second, on 1 second — until the bulb blinks 3 times confirming a reset. The bulb is ready for pairing when it blinks slowly and steadily.

3

Add the Bulb in the Kasa Smart App

Download the Kasa Smart app and sign in or create a TP-Link account. Make sure your phone is on your 2.4GHz WiFi network. Tap the plus icon then Add Device and select Bulb from the categories. The app will search for KL110 devices in pairing mode. When the bulb appears, tap it. The app will connect to the bulb's temporary hotspot and transfer your home WiFi credentials.

4

Complete WiFi Setup

Enter your 2.4GHz WiFi password when prompted. The bulb will leave its temporary hotspot, join your home network, and your phone will reconnect to your home WiFi automatically. The app will confirm success with a pairing complete screen. The bulb's LED will stop blinking and glow steadily at its last set brightness level.

Set Schedules, Scenes, and Voice Control

Name the bulb clearly — Bedside Lamp or Reading Light. In the Kasa app configure a schedule to automatically turn on at sunset and off at bedtime, or create lighting scenes for different activities. To use with Alexa enable the TP-Link Kasa skill and say Alexa discover devices. For Google Home link the Kasa account in settings. After linking, dim and power the bulb by voice using the name you assigned.

Installation Tips

Connect to a 2.4GHz WiFi network
Power-cycle to get the bulb blinking (pairing mode)
Use a standard on/off switch, not a dimmer
Leave the wall switch on for app control
Ensure decent 2.4GHz coverage at the fixture
Enter the correct WiFi password
Install any firmware update
Keep the phone close during setup

Still stuck? This is usually the deeper cause below.
