Installation Steps

1

Download the Kasa Smart App

Install the Kasa Smart app from the App Store or Google Play. Create a TP-Link Kasa account or sign in if you have one. Ensure your phone is connected to the 2.4GHz band of your home WiFi — the KP100 does not support 5GHz. If your router uses a combined SSID for both bands, you may need to temporarily connect your phone specifically to the 2.4GHz network during setup, which you can revert after pairing.

2

Plug In the KP100 and Wait for Pairing LED

Insert the KP100 into a standard wall outlet. The status LED on the front will blink orange and green alternately, indicating the plug is in setup mode and waiting to be paired. If the LED does not blink in this pattern, hold the reset button on the side of the plug for 5 seconds until it begins blinking alternately orange and green. A solid LED of any color means the plug is already configured and needs to be reset before re-adding.

3

Add the Device in the Kasa App

In the Kasa app, tap the plus icon then tap Add Device. The app will automatically search for the KP100 in pairing mode. When the plug appears in the discovery list, tap it. If it does not appear after 30 seconds, tap Plug in the manual device category list and follow the prompts. The app will connect your phone directly to the plug's temporary WiFi hotspot to deliver your home network credentials.

4

Enter Your WiFi Credentials

Select your 2.4GHz home WiFi network from the list and enter your password. The Kasa app transfers these credentials to the KP100 over a direct connection. After entry, the plug will attempt to join your home network — the LED will blink green rapidly then turn solid green when it successfully connects. The app will confirm the device is online. If setup fails, verify the correct network was selected and the password is accurate.

5

Name the Plug and Link to Alexa or Google Home

Name the plug clearly — Bedroom Fan or Coffee Maker — so voice commands are intuitive. Assign it to a room in the Kasa app. To use with Alexa, open the Alexa app, go to Skills, search for TP-Link Kasa and enable the skill, then say Alexa discover devices. For Google Home, link the Kasa account in Google Home settings. After linking, control the plug by name with your voice assistant.
