Why Is My eufy Camera Night Vision Blurry?

Problem Description

Your eufy security camera produces blurry washed out or extremely dark footage during nighttime recording. Daytime video looks fine but when night vision activates the image becomes unusable with glare spots hazy areas or no visible detail beyond a few feet. This makes overnight security monitoring ineffective and is caused by lens obstructions IR reflection issues or incorrect camera settings.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

Blurry, washed-out eufy night vision is usually infrared bouncing back into the lens rather than a bad camera — a nearby wall, eave, railing, or shooting through a window reflects the camera's own IR light straight back, hazing the image. Spiderwebs and insects drawn to the IR do the same up close.

Aim the camera so nothing reflective sits right in front of it, keep close objects out of the frame, and never shoot through glass (mount cameras outside the window). Clean the lens of dust, water spots, and webs. For color night vision, the camera needs some ambient light or its spotlight; total darkness limits it. Clearing condensation and updating firmware handle the rest.

Clean the Camera Lens

Use a soft microfiber cloth to gently clean the camera lens and the area around the IR LED lights. Even a thin film of dust or fingerprints significantly degrades night vision quality because the IR illumination amplifies any obstruction on the lens surface. For outdoor cameras check for spider webs which are invisible during the day but create massive bright streaks across the entire image when IR lights are on at night.

Check for IR Reflection

If the camera is mounted near a wall eave or any surface within 3 feet the IR lights will bounce off that surface and flood the image with white glare. Aim the camera so that no solid surface is within the immediate field of view close to the lens. Even a mounting bracket or cable within a few inches of the lens can create IR reflection artifacts that ruin the entire night image.

Adjust Night Vision Settings

Open the eufy Security app and select your camera. Go to Camera Settings then Night Vision. Try switching between Auto IR Black and White and Color Night Vision to see which produces the best results for your environment. IR mode works best in complete darkness while Color Night Vision requires some ambient light from street lamps or porch lights to produce usable footage.

Check for Condensation

Outdoor cameras can develop condensation inside the lens housing especially during temperature changes between day and night. If you see a foggy haze that appears and disappears with temperature changes the camera housing seal may be compromised. Bring the camera inside to a dry environment for 24 hours to clear the condensation. If it returns after reinstalling outdoors the camera may need warranty replacement.

Verify IR LED Function

In a dark room hold your phone camera up to the eufy camera. You should see a faint reddish glow from the IR LEDs through your phone camera even though they are invisible to the naked eye. If you see no glow one or more IR LEDs may have failed reducing the night vision illumination range. If only some LEDs work the night vision will be dim and patchy. Contact eufy support for replacement if IR LEDs have failed.
