Problem Description

You are setting up the eufy HomeBase 3 for the first time. Connect the HomeBase 3 to your router using the included Ethernet cable (port on the back). The HomeBase provides local storage (16GB built-in, expandable via USB HDD on the back) and connects to eufy cameras and sensors. This guide covers Ethernet connection, app pairing, and adding cameras.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

Setting up the HomeBase 3 is straightforward if you start wired: connect it to your router by Ethernet, power it, and add it in the eufy Security app, which walks through firmware and camera pairing. Ethernet is the recommended path and avoids most setup headaches; WiFi setup works too but wants a 2.4GHz network.

Plug the HomeBase into the router and a steady power outlet, put it in setup mode, and add it in the app on the correct account and region. Install any firmware offered, then pair your cameras to it. If you're expanding storage, install the drive so the HomeBase recognizes it. A wired, updated HomeBase 3 with recognized storage is the reliable foundation for the cameras.

Symptoms

  • Setting up the HomeBase 3
  • Won't connect to the network
  • App can't find the HomeBase
  • Ethernet vs WiFi setup
  • Storage/HDD setup
  • Adding cameras to it
  • Offline after setup
  • Firmware update during setup

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Ethernet not connected (recommended for setup)
  • Connecting to 5GHz-only for WiFi setup
  • HomeBase not in setup mode
  • Router blocking the device
  • Storage not installed/recognized
  • Firmware update pending
  • Wrong account/region
  • Power issue

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Security cameras should be installed at least 8 feet high to prevent tampering. Check local laws regarding recording audio and video. Never aim cameras at neighboring private property. Outdoor cameras should be rated IP65 or higher for weather resistance.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Connect the HomeBase 3 to your router

The eufy HomeBase 3 (model S380) connects to your router via Ethernet cable. Plug the included Ethernet cable from the HomeBase 3 LAN port to an open port on your router. Plug in the power adapter. The HomeBase 3 boots up in about 60 seconds — the LED on the front turns solid blue when ready. WiFi connection is not supported for the HomeBase itself — it must be wired.

2

Add the HomeBase 3 in the eufy Security app

Open the eufy Security app. Tap + to add a device. Select HomeBase 3 (S380). The app scans for the HomeBase on your local network. Make sure your phone is connected to the same WiFi network that the HomeBase is plugged into. The app discovers the HomeBase and walks through setup — naming, location, firmware update. The initial firmware update can take 5-10 minutes.

3

Expand storage with a hard drive

The HomeBase 3 has a built-in 16GB storage and supports an external USB hard drive up to 16TB. Plug a USB 3.0 external hard drive into the USB port on the back of the HomeBase 3. In the eufy app, go to the HomeBase > Storage Management. The app detects the external drive and prompts you to format it for eufy use. After formatting, recordings are stored on the external drive instead of the internal storage — significantly extending recording history.

4

Add cameras and doorbells to the HomeBase 3

The HomeBase 3 supports eufyCam 3, eufyCam 3C, Battery Doorbell, and other S380-compatible devices. In the eufy app, go to the HomeBase 3 > Add Device. Put the camera in pairing mode (hold Sync button for 2 seconds). The HomeBase discovers the camera within 30 seconds. The HomeBase 3 supports up to 16 cameras. All footage is stored locally — no monthly subscription required for recording.

5

Configure security modes

The HomeBase 3 has security modes: Home, Away, Disarmed, and custom modes. In the eufy app, go to the HomeBase > Security Mode. Set which cameras record and alert in each mode. Typical setup: Away mode arms all cameras with max sensitivity, Home mode arms outdoor cameras only and disables indoor cameras, Disarmed turns off all alerts. You can switch modes manually, on a schedule, or via geofencing (the app tracks your phone location and switches modes automatically).

Quick Solutions

Connect the HomeBase to the router by Ethernet for setup
Use a 2.4GHz network if setting up over WiFi
Put the HomeBase in setup mode
Allow the device on the router
Install/verify storage if adding a drive
Install any firmware update during setup
Use the correct eufy account/region
Ensure steady power

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If this comes back after following these steps, check whether a recent app or firmware update reset a default setting — the fix works, but the setting gets reverted silently.

Pro Tip

Set up activity zones to monitor only the areas that matter like your front porch and driveway and exclude the street. This dramatically reduces false alerts while ensuring you never miss an actual event at your property.

Real-World Insight

This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
