Problem Description

Your Wyze Lock shows Error Code 3001 which means calibration failed. Calibration is the process where the Wyze Lock learns the exact rotation needed to lock and unlock your specific deadbolt. If calibration fails the lock cannot determine the correct positions and will not be able to lock or unlock reliably. Error 3001 usually means the lock motor cannot complete the full rotation due to a physical obstruction, misalignment between the lock and the door frame, or the deadbolt being too stiff for the lock motor to turn. The Wyze Lock becomes non-functional for smart features until calibration succeeds.

Symptoms

  • Wyze app shows Error Code 3001 calibration failed during lock setup
  • Lock motor strains and stops before completing a full lock or unlock rotation
  • Calibration starts but fails partway through the rotation test
  • Lock beeps and flashes red during calibration attempt
  • Lock was calibrated previously but recalibration now fails
  • Auto-lock and auto-unlock features stopped working after failed calibration

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Deadbolt is stiff or requires too much force for the lock motor
  • Door is misaligned with the frame causing the bolt to bind
  • Lock adapter not properly seated on the deadbolt thumb turn
  • Lock mounting plate loose allowing the motor unit to slip during rotation
  • Door has swollen from humidity making the bolt harder to throw
  • Strike plate misaligned requiring the bolt to force into position

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Do not force the Wyze Lock motor by holding the thumb turn while it is trying to rotate. This can strip the internal gears and permanently damage the lock motor. If the motor is straining stop calibration immediately and address the physical deadbolt stiffness first.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Test Deadbolt by Hand First

Before recalibrating remove the Wyze Lock from the door or disconnect the adapter. Turn the deadbolt thumb turn by hand. It should rotate smoothly and easily in both directions. If it is stiff, catches, or requires force to turn the Wyze Lock motor will also struggle and calibration will fail. The deadbolt must turn freely by hand before the lock motor can operate it reliably.

Lubricate the Deadbolt

Apply graphite lock lubricant or silicone-based spray into the deadbolt keyhole and around the bolt mechanism. Insert the key and turn it several times to distribute the lubricant. Also spray a small amount on the bolt itself where it slides into the strike plate. Do not use WD-40 or oil-based lubricants as they attract dirt and make the problem worse over time. Graphite or silicone dry lubricants are specifically designed for locks.

3

Adjust the Strike Plate

Open the door and examine where the deadbolt meets the strike plate on the door frame. If the bolt scrapes against the plate or requires force to fully extend the plate is misaligned. Loosen the strike plate screws slightly. Close the door and turn the deadbolt to mark the correct position. Open the door and reposition the strike plate so the bolt slides in freely. If needed use a file to enlarge the strike plate hole slightly.

4

Reseat the Lock Adapter and Mounting Plate

Remove the Wyze Lock from the door. Check the adapter that connects the lock motor to the deadbolt thumb turn. It should fit snugly without wobbling. If it is loose try a different adapter size from the included set. Reinstall the mounting plate and tighten all screws firmly. The lock unit should not move or wobble at all when mounted. Any play in the mounting causes the motor to lose its calibration reference point.

5

Run Calibration Again

After addressing the physical issues open the Wyze app and navigate to the lock device. Tap the gear icon then Lock Settings then Calibrate Lock. Follow the on-screen instructions which will ask you to confirm the door is closed and locked then unlocked at specific points. The lock motor will run through a full rotation test. If calibration succeeds the lock will beep and the app will confirm. If it fails again the deadbolt may still be too stiff and may need professional locksmith adjustment.

Quick Solutions

Lubricate the deadbolt mechanism with graphite or silicone spray
Adjust the strike plate on the door frame for easier bolt engagement
Ensure the lock adapter is firmly seated on the thumb turn
Tighten the mounting plate screws so the lock unit does not move
Plane or sand the door edge if humidity has caused swelling
Manually lock and unlock the deadbolt to verify it moves freely before calibrating

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If the keypad rejects valid codes, a lockout timer may be running — five failed entries locks most keypads silently for 5–10 minutes.

Pro Tip

After successful calibration test the lock 10 times in a row using the app to lock and unlock. If it fails even once recalibrate. Temperature and humidity changes can cause the door to expand or contract slightly. If calibration fails in summer but worked in winter or vice versa the door may be swelling seasonally and needs to be planed down.

Real-World Insight

Most smart lock failures people label as hardware issues turn out to be a code wiped during a sync, or a setting reset nobody remembers triggering.
