Problem Description

Your Meross smart power strip has some outlets that don't respond to app commands. Meross power strips typically have a mix of individually controllable outlets and always-on outlets. The always-on outlets cannot be toggled through the app — only the numbered outlets are smart-controlled.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

When some outlets on a Meross power strip don't work, first confirm you're controlling them individually — each AC outlet is a separate switch in the app, so an outlet that seems "dead" may just be toggled off or governed by its own schedule. A firmware glitch or a relay fault on one channel is the next possibility.

Check each outlet's state and any schedule or automation on it in the Meross app, then power-cycle the strip to clear a glitch. Test the affected load on a different outlet to rule out the device rather than the strip, and make sure the total load is within the strip's rating. Update firmware. If one outlet's relay genuinely won't switch after a reset, that channel is faulty and Meross support can help.

Symptoms

  • Some outlets not working
  • One outlet won't switch
  • Outlets unresponsive
  • Only some outlets controllable
  • Outlet stuck on/off
  • Partial control
  • One outlet dead
  • Individual outlet fails

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Outlet not controlled individually in the app
  • Firmware glitch on one channel
  • Overloaded (total load too high)
  • Relay fault on one outlet
  • Device needs a reboot
  • Load device issue (not the strip)
  • Wiring/hardware fault
  • Schedule/automation affecting one outlet

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Never exceed the smart plug maximum wattage rating listed on the device or packaging. Do not use smart plugs with space heaters, high-wattage appliances, or devices that must not be interrupted like medical equipment. Smart plugs are not designed for outdoor use unless specifically rated for it.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Check which outlets are individually controllable

The Meross smart power strip has both individually controllable outlets and USB ports. Not all outlets on every model are independently controllable — some models have 3 independent outlets and 1 always-on outlet, or variations. Check your model's specs. In the Meross app, the power strip appears with separate toggles for each controllable outlet and USB ports. If an outlet does not appear as a separate toggle, it is either always-on or grouped with another outlet.

2

Fix an outlet not responding to app commands

If one outlet does not toggle from the app: try toggling from the physical button on the power strip (if it has individual outlet buttons). If the physical button works but the app does not: the app has lost sync. Power cycle the strip by unplugging for 10 seconds. Reconnect in the app. If the physical button also does not work, the relay for that outlet may be stuck or damaged — try pressing firmly and listening for a click sound.

3

Check total power load

Each Meross power strip has a maximum total power rating (typically 1875W/15A for US models). If the combined load of all plugged-in devices exceeds this rating, the strip's internal breaker trips and all outlets shut off. Check the wattage of each connected device. High-draw appliances (space heaters, hair dryers, microwaves) should not be plugged into a smart power strip — they are designed for electronics and moderate-draw devices.

4

Reset the internal breaker

If all outlets stop working simultaneously: the strip's overload protection tripped. Unplug all devices from the strip. Look for a small reset button on the strip body (usually near the power cable) — press it. The strip resets. Plug devices back in one at a time, checking the app to confirm each outlet is responsive. If the breaker trips again, one of the connected devices is drawing too much power or has a short.

5

Fix USB ports not charging

The USB ports on the Meross power strip provide 5V charging (typically 2.4A shared across all USB ports). If USB charging is slow or not working: check that the USB toggle is on in the Meross app. Try a different USB cable — a damaged cable causes no-charge or slow-charge issues. If multiple devices are plugged into the USB ports simultaneously, the available current is shared and each device charges slower. For fast charging, use only one USB port at a time.

Quick Solutions

Control each outlet individually in the app
Reboot the strip (power-cycle)
Stay within the strip's total load rating
Test the load device on another outlet
Update firmware
Check for a schedule/automation on that outlet
Reset the strip and re-add if needed
Contact Meross if a relay is faulty

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If drain continues after replacing batteries, check the event history — a stuck-open sensor or rapid polling loop burns through batteries in days.

Pro Tip

Use smart plugs with energy monitoring to track exactly how much electricity each appliance uses. Set up Away Mode schedules that randomly toggle lamps on and off to make your home look occupied when you are traveling.

Real-World Insight

This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.

What Usually Goes Wrong
  • Outlet not controlled individually in the app
  • Firmware glitch on one channel
  • Overloaded (total load too high)
  • Relay fault on one outlet
