Problem Description

You are setting up a Meross smart power strip for the first time. The strip connects to 2.4GHz WiFi and lets you control individual outlets through the Meross app. This guide covers plugging in, pairing with the app, and setting up individual outlet names and schedules.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

The Meross smart power strip gives you several individually-controllable AC outlets (plus USB ports) from one WiFi device, so the standout feature is per-outlet control. It sets up like any Meross device over 2.4GHz WiFi; each AC outlet then appears separately in the app to name and schedule.

Reset the strip into pairing mode, add it in the Meross app on a 2.4GHz network with the correct password, and ensure the location has decent 2.4GHz coverage. Once online, control each AC outlet independently; the USB ports typically provide power but aren't individually switched. Install any firmware, and you can schedule and voice-control each outlet.

Symptoms

  • Setting up the power strip
  • Won't connect to WiFi
  • App can't find the strip
  • Outlets not controlling separately
  • Not in pairing mode
  • Offline after setup
  • 5GHz vs 2.4GHz
  • USB questions

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Connecting to 5GHz not 2.4GHz
  • Strip not in pairing mode
  • Weak 2.4GHz at the location
  • Wrong WiFi password
  • Expecting USB ports to be switchable
  • Firmware update pending
  • Router blocking the device
  • Phone too far during setup

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Never exceed the smart plug maximum wattage rating listed on the device or packaging. Do not use smart plugs with space heaters, high-wattage appliances, or devices that must not be interrupted like medical equipment. Smart plugs are not designed for outdoor use unless specifically rated for it.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Plug in and open the Meross app

Plug the Meross smart power strip into a wall outlet. The power strip draws up to 1875W total (15A at 125V). Download the Meross app if you have not already. Tap + > Add Device > Power Strip. The app scans for the device. If it does not appear, press and hold the reset button on the strip for 5 seconds until the LED blinks rapidly — this puts it in pairing mode.

2

Connect to your 2.4GHz WiFi

The Meross power strip connects to 2.4GHz WiFi only. Enter your WiFi credentials in the app. If your home has a combined 2.4/5GHz network, the strip may fail to connect. Create a separate 2.4GHz SSID or temporarily disable 5GHz during setup. After the strip connects, you can re-enable 5GHz. The strip appears in the app with individual toggles for each outlet and a master on/off switch.

3

Name each outlet for easy control

In the Meross app, tap the power strip. Each controllable outlet appears as a numbered channel. Tap the name of each channel to rename it based on what is plugged in: 'Monitor,' 'Desk Lamp,' 'Charger,' 'Speaker.' Clear names make voice control intuitive — 'Alexa, turn off the Desk Lamp' works better than 'Alexa, turn off outlet 2.' The USB ports appear as a single channel.

4

Connect to Alexa, Google Home, or HomeKit

In the Meross app, go to Settings > Link Account and connect to your Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit account. After linking, each named outlet appears as a separate device in your smart home app. You can add individual outlets to rooms, scenes, and automations. Each outlet is controllable independently through voice commands or the smart home app.

5

Set schedules for individual outlets

Each outlet can have its own schedule. In the Meross app, tap the power strip > tap an outlet > Schedule. Create on/off times for each outlet independently. Example: the desk lamp turns on at 8AM and off at 6PM, while the monitor turns on at 9AM. The USB ports can also be scheduled. This per-outlet scheduling is the main advantage of a smart power strip over plugging everything into a single smart plug.

Quick Solutions

Connect to a 2.4GHz WiFi network
Reset the strip into pairing mode
Ensure decent 2.4GHz coverage
Enter the correct WiFi password
Control each AC outlet individually in the app
Install any firmware update
Allow the device on the router
Keep the phone close during setup

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If drain continues after replacing batteries, check the event history — a stuck-open sensor or rapid polling loop burns through batteries in days.

Pro Tip

Use smart plugs with energy monitoring to track exactly how much electricity each appliance uses. Set up Away Mode schedules that randomly toggle lamps on and off to make your home look occupied when you are traveling.

Real-World Insight

This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.

What Usually Goes Wrong
  • Connecting to 5GHz not 2.4GHz
  • Strip not in pairing mode
  • Weak 2.4GHz at the location
  • Wrong WiFi password
  • Expecting USB ports to be switchable
